Where the tours play: stops across Macau, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, India and beyond
Asia's tournament calendar is not one circuit. It is a set of separate tours, each with its own stops, its own rules and, in Japan's case, its own way of paying winners.

Macau has long been the region's traditional tournament hub. The Asian Poker Tour returned to Macau after a one-year hiatus with 28 events over seven days, held in the ballroom on the eighth floor of Galaxy Entertainment Group's StarWorld Hotel & Casino9. That same tour has drawn more than 1,000 participants to sponsored tournaments in a single year, and it also runs events outside the region, including an Asian Series stop at Ti Vegas Casino in Grand Bay9.
Japan runs its own domestic tour, the Japan Open Poker Tour, with stops in Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo and Fukuoka8. The Sapporo stop uses the Sapporo Factory Hall for the Main Event and all side events13. Tokyo events run across the New Year period, with the 2026 Tokyo #01 series scheduled from December 27, 2025 to January 4, 202614.
The Philippines has a strong domestic series scene built around Metro Card Club and other licensed rooms. The country's regulator maintains a list of poker operators with issued gaming licenses, including Prime Poker Club Manila and Voyager Poker Club15.
One regional game worth knowing if you play in Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam: Pok Deng is offered at some Asian casinos and is more common in those countries and some Chinese territories10.
JOPT: how Japan's tour works without cash prizes
This is the part that surprises most first-time visitors. In Japan, it is not legally possible to offer cash prizes for the winner of a poker tournament, because gambling-related activities are restricted by law3. JOPT complies by paying winners in other forms.
Instead of cash, JOPT offers prizes as USDT (Tether) or a player contract3. The player contract is an optional consignment agreement under which the operator covers domestic travel costs, overseas tournament entry fees and travel expenses16. It is not a cash payout you can spend freely.
The contract comes with real restrictions:
- It cannot be used for cash games16
- It cannot be transferred or shared16
- A photo ID must be presented when signing it16
- The procedure must be completed the same day on site17
- Only the prize winner may complete it; in team events, each member qualifies individually17
Prize amounts are listed in U.S. dollars calculated at a predetermined exchange rate. The dollar amount is recalculated and finalized using a fixed rate announced three days before the event date, and the rate on the day you sign the contract does not apply16. The tentative rate used for planning is 150.00 per dollar16.
JOPT also offers trophies, medals, entry tickets for future JOPT events and benefits from sponsoring companies1. The tour's total prize pool for the 2026 Tokyo #01 series was listed at $3.0M3.
Entry rules, buy-ins and re-entries across the tours
Entry rules differ enough between tours that the specific event page is the place to confirm the details before you travel.
For JOPT, you need the free GameID app installed and registered by the day before the event, with your country set to Japan. If you do not have a Japanese phone number, you enter all zeros, for example 00000000001. JOPT tournaments follow international poker rules and adopt the rules of the Tournament Directors Association1. The official languages are Japanese and English18.
For the Asian Poker Tour, all players are required to register with the tour to participate in any APT event. You are issued Tournament Receipts, which are paid and verified at the cashier, and first-time players fill in and sign a Player Release Form8.
Buy-ins vary widely by tour and event. JOPT's typical events range from a few thousand yen to several tens of thousands of yen1. At the higher end:
| Event | Buy-in |
|---|---|
| NLH Main Event, JOPT 2026 Osaka | JPY 120,000 including JPY 10,909 consumption tax, or 3 JOPT Tickets plus JPY 7,000 including JPY 636 consumption tax2 |
| NLH Millions side event, JOPT 2026 Osaka | JPY 40,000 including JPY 3,636 consumption tax, or 1 JOPT Ticket plus JPY 7,0002 |
| Open Face Chinese Poker, JOPT 2026 Osaka | JPY 50,000 including JPY 4,545 consumption tax19 |
In Vietnam, poker clubs operate on a ticket model, with entry costs from a few hundred thousand dong to a few tens of millions of dong20.
Re-entry rules also differ. JOPT allows up to four entries total per tournament or flight under its 3-cap re-entry system, and satellite qualifiers are exempt from that limit21. Many JOPT tournaments allow rebuys or re-entries depending on the event3. At the RVS Cup Philippine Poker Championship, Day 1 entry heats allowed unlimited re-entry6.
One JOPT rule that catches people out: you must be seated by the entry deadline or your entry is canceled, and entries are also canceled if you do not sit within a set time after registration closes21. You cannot cancel an entry after starting play in a tournament that is not the one you wanted21.
JOPT also enforces conduct rules. If the tournament director or organizer judges a player intoxicated, play may be suspended, alcohol service stopped, and the player removed or disqualified, with no refund of entry fees and chips confiscated21.
Prize structures: guarantees, player contracts and payout formats
Prize structures across Asia fall into two broad types: cash-paying events and ticket-or-contract events.

Cash-paying events are the norm outside Japan. The Philippine Poker Millions Main Event carried a ₱50,000,000 guarantee, with a ₱7,200,000 top prize for first place4. The RVS Cup Philippine Poker Championship had a ₱10,000,000 guarantee and a ₱16,500 buy-in, drawing 1,080 entries6. Its payout ladder ran ₱2,200,000 for second, ₱1,115,000 for third, ₱270,000 for sixth, ₱210,000 for seventh and ₱150,000 for ninth22.
JOPT's structure is different by design. Entry fees paid by players are treated as a deposit allocated to venue and labor costs of the event, and no prizes or player contracts are funded from them21. That is the mechanism that keeps the tour compliant with Japanese law.
JOPT does allow deals. ICM-based deals can be made in all tournaments except satellites, only at the final table and only when all players involved are guaranteed a prize. The winner still receives part of the prize and the trophy16.
If you win a JOPT player contract, note the cancellation clause. If cheating or misconduct affecting fair competition is discovered, the contract may be canceled and rankings may be adjusted upward16.
Philippine Poker Millions and RVS Cup: the domestic series with the biggest guarantees
The Philippines runs the largest domestic guarantees in the region, and both major series are worth knowing if you are based in Southeast Asia.
The Philippine Poker Millions Main Event carried a ₱50,000,000 guarantee, described as uniting poker clubs nationwide4. Day 1 flights were held at various poker rooms across the country and online via GGPoker PH4. The top prize was ₱7,200,0005.
The RVS Cup Philippine Poker Championship is the other big one. The 2023 edition ran November 15 to 20 with a ₱10,000,000 guarantee and a ₱16,500 buy-in6. It drew 1,080 entries22. Past winners include Lester Edoc, Richard Marquez, Anacleto Quijano, Marco Almerez, Jeffrey Calma and Christopher Chua6. Richard Marquez was the defending champion going into the 2023 edition6.
Both series run out of licensed rooms. The Philippine regulator publishes a list of poker operators with issued gaming licenses, which is the practical way to check whether a room is operating legally before you go15.
If you are visiting the Philippines and want to play, these domestic series are the most accessible large-field events, and they pay in cash.
Upcoming events and satellite schedules to watch
The calendar for late 2026 and into 2027 has several confirmed stops.

Satellites for the WSOP Circuit series are not held on Sunday, October 11, 18 and 25 because of the Circuit events11.
For JOPT, satellites are the cheaper route in. A satellite tournament is a qualifying event where players can win entry tickets to the main JOPT events at a lower cost1. Satellite tournaments are not subject to the four-entry limit that applies to main events21. Venues publish their own satellite schedules, and Casino Quest published its JOPT satellite information for September and October11.
How online poker sites fit alongside the live tours
Online poker sits alongside the live tours in two ways: as a satellite route into live events, and as a separate game with its own legal picture.
The clearest live-online link is the Philippine Poker Millions, where Day 1 flights were held both at poker rooms across the country and online via GGPoker PH4. That means you can qualify for a major live event without traveling to a Day 1 venue.
JOPT has its own app-based play. The GameID app is free and required for JOPT participation, and free play is possible in freerolls even without a coupon8. POKERWEB COIN, the in-app currency, is accepted for JOPT entry fees1.
If you are comparing live and online play more broadly, the practical differences come down to pace, cost, rules and legal status, and those vary by country. Online poker is not legal everywhere in Asia, and the rules for visitors, residents and citizens can differ. If you want the country-by-country picture, start with poker in Asia and the individual country guides.

Common Questions
What is the minimum age to play JOPT tournaments?
JOPT tournaments are generally open to players 18 and older, but some venues set a 20+ requirement, so check the specific stop. Anyone under 18 cannot enter any tournament, and if it is discovered, the entry is voided on the spot and further participation is barred.
How much is the buy-in for the JOPT Osaka Main Event?
The NLH Main Event at JOPT 2026 Osaka is JPY 120,000 including JPY 10,909 consumption tax, or 3 JOPT Tickets plus JPY 7,000 including JPY 636 consumption tax. Side events run lower, from JPY 40,000 up.
Can you re-enter JOPT tournaments after being eliminated?
Yes, up to four entries total per tournament or flight under the 3-cap re-entry system. Satellite qualifiers are exempt from that limit. Rebuys and re-entries vary by event, so check the structure sheet for the one you are playing.
What was the top prize at the Philippine Poker Millions Main Event?
The PPM Main Event carried a ₱50,000,000 guarantee, and the top prize for first place was ₱7,200,000. Day 1 flights ran at poker rooms across the Philippines and online through GGPoker PH.
Are JOPT prizes paid in cash?
No. Cash prizes for tournament winners are not legally possible in Japan, so JOPT pays in USDT (Tether) or a player contract that covers travel and entry costs. The contract cannot be used for cash games and cannot be transferred.
What payment methods does JOPT accept for entry fees?
Cash in JPY, credit cards, USDT (Tether), POKERWEB COIN in the GameID app, transportation IC cards such as Suica and ICOCA, Rakuten Edy, iD, QuickPay, WeChat Pay and Alipay. You need the free GameID app installed and registered by the day before the event.
