How Do JOPT Satellite Tickets Work?

How Do JOPT Satellite Tickets Work?

JOPT satellite tickets are won by qualifying in smaller tournaments with entry fees from JPY 6,000 to JPY 50,000, and carry a printed expiry date, such as January 4, 2026 for one Tokyo series.

Ticket validity: how long you have to use it

A JOPT invitation ticket is not open-ended. Every satellite prints a validity date on the ticket, and that date is tied to the specific series the satellite feeds into. Once the date passes, the ticket is dead.

Recent examples show how much the dates vary. Invitation tickets from the JOPT 2025 Tokyo #03 satellites were valid until January 4, 20262. A voucher from a Sapporo satellite in the 2026 series was valid until September 31, 2026, and usable only at JOPT Sapporo3. An earlier Tokyo satellite issued tickets valid until July 31, 20254. There is no single JOPT-wide expiry rule. The date is printed on the ticket you are handed, and that is the date that matters.

The practical point: read the ticket the day you win it. If the expiry falls before you can travel, the seat is gone. Nothing about the ticket can be extended, and there is no mechanism to push it to a later series.

For comparison, other Japanese betting products run on fixed clocks too. JRA betting tickets are valid for 60 days, and the payoff on a winning ticket is also valid for 60 days6. A toto application ticket at a convenience store is valid for just 30 minutes after it is issued8. JOPT tickets sit somewhere in between: weeks or months rather than minutes, but still a hard deadline.

Where the ticket can be used: JOPT Tokyo only

This is the part that catches people out. A JOPT satellite ticket is normally locked to one event. The most common restriction is JOPT Tokyo only.

Where the ticket can be used: JOPT Tokyo only

The JOPT 2025 Tokyo #03 invitation tickets were explicitly marked "usable only at JOPT Tokyo"2. The Sapporo voucher from the 2026 series was the mirror image: valid only at JOPT Sapporo3. So a ticket won in one city does not travel to another. If you qualify in Sapporo and your plans change to Tokyo, the ticket does not follow you.

The JOPT app separates ticket types by function. Trial, Satellite and Final tickets each give access to different tournaments, so a satellite ticket is not a general pass to everything on the schedule1. It gets you into the event it was won for.

There is one more layer for the Main Event. Entry to the JOPT Main Event requires an entry entitlement obtained through a partner-venue satellite, or meeting the participation requirements set for that specific event6. In other words, the satellite route is the standard path in, and the ticket you hold is the proof.

If you are an international player using the special sponsorship program, you will need to present your passport at the event venue, and JOPT staff will confirm your eligibility based on your landing permission information and other relevant details6. Bring the passport. Do not assume a driver's license or a residence card will do.

What happens if the ticket expires

Nothing good, but nothing complicated either. The ticket becomes worthless. There is no refund, no credit, no rollover to the next series.

This is worth stating plainly because the amounts involved are real. Satellite entry fees in the JOPT 2025 Tokyo #03 series ranged from JPY 8,000 for satellites to the 10 Game MIX and PLO Championship, up to JPY 50,000 for satellites to NLH Platinum2. A 25,000 Voucher x2 satellite at 1/10 carried a JPY 6,000 fee3. You pay that fee to enter the satellite. If you qualify, you get the invitation ticket. If you then cannot attend, the fee is not coming back and neither is the seat.

The same logic applies to vouchers. A satellite to NLH Good Game 1000 qualified 1 in 12 entries, and qualifiers received either a JPY 50,000 or JPY 10,000 voucher depending on the tournament amount3. Those vouchers could not be split, and they were valid only until the printed date and only at the named event3.

If you win a satellite and then realize you cannot attend JOPT Tokyo, your options are effectively zero. The ticket is not transferable, so you cannot sell it or give it to a friend. It is not convertible to cash. It does not convert into a seat at a later series. The only thing you can do is not repeat the mistake next time: check the event dates before you enter the satellite, not after.

Do JOPT satellite tickets transfer to another player?

No. Invitation tickets are issued to the player who won them and stay with that player.

This is consistent with how tournament tickets work across the wider poker market. At GGPoker, for example, the first WSOP Paradise GGMillion$ ticket a player receives is not transferable, and only additionally earned tickets can be passed on5. JOPT tickets follow the stricter version of that rule: no transfer at all.

Practically, this means you cannot buy a satellite ticket from someone who won one. You cannot inherit one. You cannot split one with a friend who wants to play the same event. If a stranger offers to sell you a JOPT invitation ticket, the ticket will not be honored in your name.

It also means the satellite route is the only route. If you want a seat, you have to win it yourself, or qualify through a partner venue under the Main Event sponsorship program6.

What it costs to get in

The satellite entry fee is the only money you spend to reach the invitation ticket. There is no separate exchange fee, because there is no exchange step. You pay to enter the satellite, you play, and if you qualify the ticket is issued to you.

What it costs to get in

Fees scale with the target event. In the JOPT 2025 Tokyo #03 series:

  • Satellites to NLH Good Game 1000 and the 100,000 Voucher satellites cost JPY 10,000 including JPY 909 consumption tax.
  • Satellites to NLH Crown cost JPY 25,000 including JPY 2,273 consumption tax.
  • Satellites to 10 Game MIX and PLO Championship cost JPY 8,000 including JPY 727 consumption tax.
  • Satellites to NLH Platinum cost JPY 50,000 including JPY 4,545 consumption tax.
  • Satellites to PLO Highroller and NLH Crown at 1/20 cost JPY 15,0002.

The pattern is simple: the bigger the target event, the higher the satellite fee. A JPY 8,000 satellite is a cheap shot at a mid-stakes event. A JPY 50,000 satellite is a serious buy-in aimed at a high-roller seat.

One structural note. The number of Final tickets you can use per event's online Day 1 varies by event and period1. So even holding a valid ticket does not guarantee unlimited re-entry into Day 1. Check the specific event's rules before you plan around multiple bullets.

Questions a first-timer asks

Can I buy a JOPT satellite ticket directly? No. You win it by qualifying. There is no retail channel for invitation tickets.

Can I buy one from overseas? No, because there is no retail channel for invitation tickets at all, overseas or otherwise. Toto's terms bar overseas purchase of its own sports promotion lottery tickets9, but they do not cover JOPT satellite tickets, which are won through partner venues and the JOPT app.

What do I bring to the venue? Your passport if you are an international player using the sponsorship program, so staff can confirm eligibility6. Your invitation ticket, obviously, and the ID that matches the name on it.

What if I qualify but my visa or travel plans fall through? The ticket expires on its printed date and is not refundable. There is no hardship exception.

Can I use a Tokyo ticket at Osaka, Sapporo or Fukuoka? No. Tickets are stamped for one event. The Sapporo voucher was Sapporo only, and the Tokyo tickets were Tokyo only2.

Is there any way to extend a ticket? No extension mechanism is published. Treat the printed date as final.

If you are new to how satellites feed into bigger events, the mechanics are the same across most tours: you pay a smaller fee, you play a shorter structure, and you win a seat rather than cash. Common Questions

How do I get a JOPT satellite invitation ticket?

You win one. Satellites are small qualifying tournaments run at partner venues and online. Finish above the required chip count and you receive an invitation ticket or voucher for the target event. You do not buy an invitation ticket directly.

Can I use my JOPT satellite ticket at other events?

Usually no. Most invitation tickets and vouchers are stamped for one specific event, and many say JOPT Tokyo only. A ticket won for Sapporo will not get you into Tokyo, and a Tokyo ticket will not get you into Osaka. Check the printed event name before you plan travel.

What is the expiry date of a JOPT invitation ticket?

It varies by satellite. Recent examples include January 4, 2026 for JOPT Tokyo tickets, May 31, 2026 for one Tokyo voucher, and July 31, 2025 for an earlier series. The date is printed on the ticket itself, so read it the day you win.

Do JOPT satellite tickets transfer to another player?

No. Invitation tickets are issued to the player who won them and are not transferable. You cannot sell, gift or hand your ticket to a friend. If you cannot attend, the ticket simply goes unused.

Is there a fee to exchange a satellite ticket?

There is no exchange fee, because there is no exchange. You pay an entry fee to enter the satellite itself, and that fee is gone whether you qualify or not. If you qualify, the invitation ticket is issued to you at no extra charge.

What happens if I win a satellite but cannot attend JOPT Tokyo?

You lose the seat. Invitation tickets are not refundable, not transferable and not convertible to cash. If the expiry date passes without you playing, the ticket becomes worthless. There is no waitlist and no credit toward a future event.
