Vietnam Lottery

What the lottery in Vietnam covers

Vietnam's lottery comes in four broad types: traditional lottery, self-selected number lottery (manual or computerized), instant-result scratch and peel tickets, and other forms as provided by regulation⁶. It is the most widespread form of legal gambling in the country.

In practice you will meet two families of games:

• The provincial construction lotteries (xo so kien thiet), run by state companies in each province. These are the famous printed tickets with a 6-digit number, drawn once a day and announced on radio and television. See xo so kien thiet for the full picture.
• Vietlott's computerized games, sold nationwide through terminals and a phone app. These include the jackpot games Mega 6/45 and Power 6/55, the digit games Max 3D and Max 3D Pro, the fast-draw games Keno, Bingo18 and Lotto 5/35. See xo so dien toan for how the computerized side works.

All stakes and prizes are in Vietnamese dong. Winnings from lottery are taxable income in Vietnam, so a large prize will not be paid out in full; the tax side is covered on our tax on gambling winnings page⁷.

Who may play is simple and the same for both families: Vietnamese citizens, Vietnamese residing abroad, and foreigners who enter Vietnam legally, provided you are 18 or older and have full civil act capacity. Vietlott can refuse to pay a prize to someone who was not eligible to play in the first place⁸.

Traditional lottery: the provincial construction lotteries

The construction lotteries are the older institution, dating back decades, and they remain the everyday lottery for most Vietnamese. Each province has its own company that prints tickets and runs a draw, and the results are a fixture of evening radio and television.

The products on offer under the traditional system are²:

• Traditional 5-digit and 6-digit lottery tickets
• Manual loto, where you pick 2, 3 or 4 digits, or 2, 3 or 4 pairs of numbers
• Instant-result scratch and peel tickets

Tickets come in three denominations: VND 5,000, VND 10,000 and VND 20,000². A 6-digit ticket wins if your full number matches a prize number in the draw, and the prize structure is fixed per million-ticket series. Binh Duong, for example, puts VND 5 billion in total prizes into every series of one million tickets⁹.

Draws happen every day of the week, but each province draws on its own schedule. In the south, the rotation runs Monday Dong Thap, Tuesday Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Wednesday Dong Nai, Thursday Tay Ninh, Friday Vinh Long, Saturday Long An and Sunday Tien Giang¹⁰. So on any given evening there is always at least one provincial draw somewhere, and players often follow several.

The in-depth guide to this side of the lottery is our xo so kien thiet page.

Vietlott: the national computerized lottery and its games

Vietlott (Vietnam Computerized Lottery One Member Co., Ltd) is the national operator, running self-selected computerized lottery products across the country. Its current lineup is Mega 6/45, Power 6/55, Max 3D, Max 3D Pro, Keno, Bingo18 and Lotto 5/35¹¹.

Unlike the provincial tickets, where you buy a pre-printed number, every Vietlott game has you choose your own numbers on a play slip at a terminal, or in the app. The games differ mainly in how often they draw and how the prizes work:

The full guide to the operator, its games and how each one plays is on our Vietlott: how to play and what you can win page.

Mega 6/45 and Power 6/55: jackpots and system bets

Mega 6/45 is the game that made Vietlott famous. For VND 10,000 you choose 6 numbers from 01 to 45, and matching all 6 wins the jackpot, which starts at VND 12 billion and accumulates draw after draw until someone hits it¹. In a recent draw the jackpot had rolled to over VND 124 billion¹².

The lower tiers pay fixed amounts per entry. In that same draw, matching 5 numbers paid VND 10 million, matching 4 paid VND 300,000 and matching 3 paid VND 30,000¹².

You can also play a system bet, choosing more than 6 numbers to cover many combinations in one slip. A system costs more than a single entry, but it pays across every matching combination, so a system that includes the winning numbers collects the jackpot plus the lower-tier prizes for each matching combination¹.

Power 6/55 works the same way but with 6 numbers from 01 to 55 plus a bonus number, and it has two jackpots: Jackpot 1 for matching all 6, and Jackpot 2 for matching 5 plus the bonus number. Both roll over when nobody wins. System bets (called "bao" in Vietnamese) multiply your coverage the same way as in Mega, with payouts scaling from a few tens of millions of dong up to billions for large systems¹⁴.

The detailed guide to both jackpot games, including full prize tables and how system bets work, is on our Mega 6/45 and Power 6/55 page.

Max 3D, Max 3D Pro and Bingo18: the fast-draw games

Max 3D is the digit game. You pick a three-digit number, for example 1-2-3, and mark it on the play slip. You can play a single triple, or two triples in Max 3D+3D mode by marking digits on both the left and right boards. Each frame on the slip (A, B, C, D) produces one printed entry, and you can let the machine pick for you by marking TC¹⁵.

Max 3D draws at 18:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and each draw selects 20 winning triples across four prize tiers¹⁶. The headline prizes for the two-triple play: matching any 2 of the 4 first-prize triples pays VND 40 million per VND 10,000 entry, and matching any 2 of the 6 second-prize triples pays VND 10 million¹⁶. In the single-triple play, matching one first, second or third prize triple pays VND 40,000¹⁶. Draws are broadcast live on TodayTV (SCTV2) and on Vietlott's Facebook page¹⁵.

Max 3D Pro is the bigger sibling, drawing at 18:00 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays¹⁷. Its top prizes: VND 30 million for matching 2 of the 4 first-prize triples, VND 4 million for matching 2 of the 8 third-prize triples, and a Sub Jackpot of VND 400 million for matching the Jackpot triples in reverse drawing order¹⁸. A system play picking 3 different numbers for both sets covers 36 combinations and costs VND 360,000¹⁸.

Bingo18 is the fastest of the three. Three numbers, each from 1 to 6, are drawn every 6 minutes from 06:00 to no later than 21:53 daily, including weekends and holidays, and tickets sell continuously during each draw¹⁹. Each entry costs VND 10,000 and there are 38 ways to play across two tables²⁰. The main bet types and their payouts per VND 10,000 entry²⁰:

• Single number: VND 12,000 if one of your numbers appears, VND 20,000 for two, VND 30,000 for three
• Two matching numbers: VND 75,000 if at least two of your chosen number appear
• Three matching numbers: VND 1.2 million for three of your chosen number, VND 200,000 for any three matching
• Big-Tie-Small on the total: Small (3 to 9) and Big (12 to 18) pay VND 15,000, Tie (10 or 11) pays VND 20,000

A winner receives only one prize tier per bet type, multiplied by the number of entries²⁰.

The in-depth pages are Vietlott Max 3D for the digit games, and the Bingo18 detail sits on the Vietlott operator page.

Keno and Lotto 5/35: eligibility and how to check results

Keno is Vietlott's most flexible game. You pick 1 to 10 numbers from 01 to 80, and each draw period selects 20 winning numbers. Draws run every few minutes through the day, and tickets sell continuously throughout each draw period, so you can buy a ticket for the next draw at almost any time⁸. There is no limit on how much you can wager¹³.

Prizes scale with how many numbers you picked and matched. The top prize is VND 2 billion for matching 10 of 10¹³. At the small end, if you picked 5 numbers, matching 2 pays VND 90,000⁸. If Vietlott changes the prize structure or values, it announces the change in advance²¹.

Lotto 5/35 is a newer fast-draw game: pick 5 numbers from 01 to 35, with a jackpot starting from VND 600 million and a prize-sharing mechanism when multiple players hit it³. A recent winner in Ho Chi Minh City took a Lotto 5/35 jackpot of over VND 2.3 billion³.

Checking results is easy for all of these games. You can scan your ticket at the checkwin machines placed at sales points, or check it in the Vietlott SMS app²². Keno results are also published on Vietlott's website after each draw.

Eligibility is the same across the Vietlott range: Vietnamese citizens in the country, overseas Vietnamese who legally enter Vietnam, or foreigners legally in Vietnam, aged 18 or older with full civil capacity²². The full Keno guide, with the complete prize table by number of picks, is on our Vietlott Keno page.

Where to buy tickets: sales points and the Vietlott SMS app

Vietlott sells through exactly two official channels: its sales points nationwide and the Vietlott SMS app on mobile phones²³. The network stands at about 6,118 sales points across 34 provinces and cities³. You can find the nearest one through the locator on Vietlott's website, which lets you filter by province or city, from An Giang to Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City²⁴.

The Vietlott SMS app (official site: https://vietlott-sms.vn) is the first and, so far, the only official phone lottery distribution channel in Vietnam³. To use it you register, verify your account, then deposit money and choose your tickets³. For Bingo18, bets placed in the app are confirmed by SMS from the number 9969²⁰. Players using the phone channel need both a betting account and a prize-receiving account²².

One thing to be clear about: Vietlott's official channels are its physical sales network and the Vietlott SMS app on your phone²³. What the rules do not allow is anyone buying tickets on your behalf: no regulation permits an individual or organization to act as a go-between for players, and third-party apps and websites offering to purchase tickets hold no lottery business license and are not Vietlott agents²³. Anything outside the official sales network and the Vietlott SMS app that claims to sell Vietlott tickets is not official.

Provincial construction lottery tickets are sold the old-fashioned way: at lottery agents and retail points in the province that runs the game¹⁰.

Claiming a prize: deadlines, documents and payout tiers

For Vietlott games, you have 60 days from the date the draw result is determined. After that, the winning ticket no longer has any claim value⁵. Claims are accepted and paid starting at least 60 minutes after results are officially posted on vietlott.vn, and payment comes no later than 5 working days from when Vietlott or the agent receives your claim⁵.

What you need to bring⁵:

• The winning ticket, intact and meeting all conditions
• A valid original ID: identity card, citizen ID card or passport, matching the information stored in Vietlott's system
• If claiming by proxy, a valid proxy claim letter, confirmed in writing by the commune or ward government where the winner resides

If you lost your ID, you must obtain a new one and update your account information before claiming, or use a passport that shows the same identity card or citizen ID number as the one in Vietlott's system⁵.

Where you claim depends on the prize size⁵:

For prizes of VND 10 million or less bought through the phone channel, the agent pays automatically into your registered receiving account within 5 working days of the result⁵. All agent and Vietlott payments go by bank transfer into the winner's account⁵.

One right worth knowing: a winner can ask the lottery company to keep confidential their name, address, the time and place of claiming, and the amount and intended use of the winnings²⁵.

For the provincial lotteries the deadline is shorter: 30 days from the draw result, after which the ticket loses its claim value¹⁰. Claims are made in person at the company office or its authorized agents, and payment can be in cash or by bank transfer¹⁰. If you cannot claim in person, a proxy claim needs a written authorization confirmed by the local authority where you live¹⁰.

Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Tay Ninh: the southern provincial companies

Three of the southern provincial companies are worth knowing individually, because each has its own draw day, claim office and result channels.

Binh Duong draws its 6-digit traditional lottery every Friday, with tickets at VND 10,000 and VND 5 billion in prizes per million-ticket series⁹. Results are broadcast live on FM 92.5 MHz of Ho Chi Minh City Radio Television every Friday, and you can call 0274-3824151 or 0274-3827446 for result information⁹. Our guide is Binh Duong Lottery Company: how to play and what you can win.

Dong Nai draws on Wednesdays in the southern rotation. Prize claims are made in person at the company, reachable on (0251) 3 810 639 or by email at xosodongnai@gmail.com; its websites are www.xosodongnai.com.vn and www.xosodongnai.vn²⁶. Our guide is Dong Nai Lottery Company: how to play and what you can win.

Tay Ninh draws on Thursdays. Its self-selected number lottery uses the results of the southern provincial draws, so a Tay Ninh ticket is settled against whichever province drew that day¹⁰. Tickets are sold at lottery agents and retail points across the province, and prizes are claimed at 315A Tran Hung Dao, Ward I, Tay Ninh city, or at authorized agents, within 30 days¹⁰. Our guide is Tay Ninh Lottery Company: how to play and what you can win.

Scam warning: what Vietlott does not ask for

Vietlott has publicly warned that scammers are using its name and image to defraud people. The schemes to watch for include "revenue-running" arrangements that promise commission, fake Vietlott accounts running online scratch-card programs, and demands for fees or personal income tax payments before a prize is "released"¹.

The simple rule: Vietlott does not operate revenue-running schemes, and any demand for fees or personal income tax before a prize is released is part of a scam, not a real prize claim¹. If someone claiming to be Vietlott asks for any of those, it is not Vietlott.

Protect yourself by buying only at official sales points, and by following Vietlott's official website and fanpage for results and announcements¹. If in doubt, call the head office on 024.62.686.818².
