What Vietlott Keno is

Keno is one of five self-selected lottery products sold by Vietlott, Vietnam's state lottery company, alongside Power, Mega, Max 3D and Max 3D Pro, and it is available in all 63 provinces and cities across the country4. Unlike the big-jackpot games such as Mega 6/45 and Power 6/55, which draw a few times a week, Keno is designed for constant play: a new result comes out every few minutes, all day, every day.

The game itself is simple. Each entry is a set of numbers you choose yourself, from a single number up to ten numbers, out of a field running from 01 to 80. When the draw happens, 20 winning numbers are selected from that same field, and you win based on how many of your numbers appear among the 202. Pick fewer numbers and you need fewer matches to win something; pick ten and you are chasing the top prize.

There is no limit on how much you can wager in total across a day, since each entry is simply another VND 10,000 set of numbers, and you can play as many boards, side games and draws as you like2. That makes Keno the most flexible product in the Vietlott lineup: you can spend VND 10,000 on one quick entry, or build a whole evening around it.

Draw times and how often draws happen

Keno runs every single day, Monday through Sunday. Draws are issued from 06:04 in the morning until 21:54 at night, with a new draw every 5 minutes5. That works out to roughly 190 draws a day, so you never wait long for a result, whether you buy your ticket at breakfast or after dinner.

Ticket sales do not stop between draws. Vietlott sells continuously throughout the duration of each draw period, so a ticket you buy at any point during the day is entered into the next upcoming draw, or into whichever range of draws you selected3. If you buy a multi-draw ticket in the morning, you can check in on the results as the day goes on.

Because the schedule is this dense, draw numbers matter more than clock times. Each draw has its own number, and your ticket records exactly which draws it covers, which is what you use when checking results online or at a terminal.

What it costs

The basic unit of play is one entry, and one entry costs VND 10,0006. That is the minimum bet for each set of numbers, and it is also the default value: if you hand in a slip without marking a betting value, the terminal prints it at VND 10,0003.

Costs scale up in a straightforward way:

  • Each board you fill (A or B) is one set of numbers, at VND 10,000 each1
  • Each additional play option you mark is another VND 10,000 per set1
  • Each draw you add to a multi-draw ticket multiplies the total by the number of draws, up to 303

So a slip with two boards, one side game, and 10 draws of coverage would cost VND 300,000 in total. Whenever you play multiple times in the same drawing, or enter multiple ways in one draw, the total value of your entries is always a multiple of VND 10,0006.

How to fill in a play slip: boards, spots and MAY TU CHON

The Keno play slip has two boards, labeled A and B. Each board you fill in corresponds to one printed set of numbers on your ticket, so filling both boards gives you two separate entries1. Play slips and pencils are available at the retail point, so you can just ask the staff for one.

On each board, you do two things:

  1. Pick your spot. Mark the spot you want to bet, from spot 1 to spot 10. The spot is how many numbers you are choosing, so spot 3 means you mark three numbers, spot 10 means ten3.
  2. Mark your numbers. Color in that many numbers on the board, from the field of 01 to 80. The maximum is 10 numbers per entry1.

If you do not want to pick numbers yourself, mark the box labeled MÁY TỰ CHỌN, which means "machine self-select," on board A, B or both. The terminal then picks the numbers for you and prints them on the ticket1. This is the quick option when you are at the counter and do not want to study a slip.

Once you have filled the slip, hand it to the salesperson with payment, and take the printed ticket, paying the entry value shown on it1. Keep that ticket: it is the only thing that can be scanned or presented to claim a prize.

Prizes for the main game

Prizes in the main game depend on your spot and how many of your numbers match the 20 drawn. The headline figures from the prize structure:

EntryWhat you needPrize
Spot 10Match all 10 numbersVND 2 billion2
Spot 9Match 9 numbers, if fewer than 12 winning sets in the drawVND 800 million per set2
Spot 8Match 8 numbers, if fewer than 50 winning sets in the drawVND 200 million per set2

The lower spots pay smaller amounts for fewer matches, and the full prize table for every spot is printed in the game rules and shown at points of sale.

Two caps are worth knowing about. First, when many people hit the same tier in one draw, the prize for that tier is divided: for the top prize, if there are more than five winners, the payout value is VND 10 billion divided by the number of winners6. Second, the total paid out for tiers 8, 9 and 10 combined in any single draw cannot exceed VND 10 billion2. In practice this means a single winner takes the full VND 2 billion, but a very crowded draw can spread the top-tier money across more winners.

Vietlott announces any change to the number, structure or value of prizes in advance, so the figures above hold unless a notice has been published6.

Additional play options and multipliers

Beyond the main number-picking game, the play slip offers four additional play options, which are side bets on the character of the 20 drawn numbers rather than on specific numbers. You mark one of the four options on the slip, and each additional play costs a minimum of VND 10,000 per set1.

Three of the side games work like this:

Side gameWinning conditionPayout per VND 10,000 entry
Small13 or more of the 20 drawn numbers fall in the range 01 to 40VND 26,0002
Big13 or more of the 20 drawn numbers fall in the range 41 to 80VND 26,0006
Even15 or more of the drawn numbers are evenVND 200,0002
Even (lower tier)11 or 12 of the drawn numbers are evenVND 20,0002

One rule to watch: if you choose an additional play, you must not also mark the spot section or the number boards on that slip. The side games replace the number-picking game, not add to it1.

Within each side game, a winner receives only one prize tier. If your result qualifies at two levels of the same side game, you are paid the single corresponding tier, not both2.

Playing several draws at once

Because draws come every few minutes, buying one draw at a time means a lot of trips to the counter. The alternative is the multi-draw option: you can select a maximum of 30 consecutive draws in advance on a single ticket3. Mark the number of draws you want on the slip, pay the total, and every one of those draws includes your numbers automatically.

A multi-draw ticket keeps you in the game across several consecutive draws without buying a new slip each time. Each set of numbers carries a minimum value of VND 10,000, which is also the default if you do not mark a value yourself, so the cost of a long run scales with how many boards you play. It is the standard way regular players cover an evening.

Where to buy

Keno tickets are sold at Vietlott points of sale across all 63 provinces and cities4. These are typically small retail counters, often inside or beside shops, displaying the Vietlott logo and a terminal. The staff hand you a play slip and pencil if you want to pick numbers yourself, or you can ask for MÁY TỰ CHỌN and let the terminal choose1.

There is also a digital channel. Through the Vietlott SMS app, you register, verify your account, then deposit money, and you can buy self-selected lottery tickets, including Keno, directly from your phone7. Results can be checked in the same app, which saves scanning tickets at a counter.

For context on the wider landscape, Keno sits alongside the traditional Vietnam lottery draws and the other Vietlott games; if you are curious how the whole system fits together, our Vietlott overview covers the full product range.

Checking results and claiming winnings

Checking a ticket takes seconds. You can scan it through the checkwin machine at any point of sale, or check the draw results on the Vietlott SMS app3. Each draw's 20 winning numbers are published with its draw number, so match the draw numbers on your ticket to the published results.

When it comes to claiming, a few conditions apply to every winning ticket8:

  • The ticket must have been recorded on Vietlott's system before the sales cutoff for that draw
  • It must still be within the claim period
  • The ticket must not already have been recorded as paid
  • Your betting information must match the registered account information

Winners must present the winning ticket along with documents proving they meet the eligibility conditions, so bring your ID or passport when claiming, and keep the purchased ticket safe until then9. Prizes are paid by bank transfer into the account the claimant requests8.

If you genuinely cannot claim in person, because of illness or a long business trip for example, you can authorize a legal representative. The authorization must be in writing and confirmed by the commune, ward or town government where you live8. Very large claims, from VND 70 billion upward, are handled directly by Vietlott's head office rather than at a point of sale8. And if a dispute or complaint arises over a ticket, the payment deadline is extended until the competent state authority issues its official conclusion8.

Who can play: age and eligibility rules

Vietlott Keno is open to anyone aged 18 or above who is a Vietnamese citizen, a Vietnamese person residing abroad, or a foreigner who has legally entered Vietnam3. You also need full civil act capacity: people whose civil act capacity is restricted or lost under Vietnamese law are excluded1.

For foreign visitors and expats, this makes Keno one of the easiest gambling products to take part in legally, since it is a state lottery sold openly at retail counters, unlike casinos in Vietnam, where entry rules for locals are far stricter. The practical point is simple: if you win while ineligible, Vietlott has the right to refuse payment, so make sure you are 18 or older and in the country legally before playing1.

A first visit, step by step

If you have never played, here is how a first Keno ticket typically goes:

  1. Find a point of sale. Look for the Vietlott sign at a retail counter; they are common in city neighborhoods and near markets4.
  2. Take a play slip and pencil from the staff, or tell them you want the machine to pick1.
  3. Choose your spot, from 1 to 10, and mark that many numbers on board A. Add board B for a second set if you like3.
  4. Or mark MÁY TỰ CHỌN instead of picking numbers yourself1.
  5. Decide on draws. One draw, or up to 30 consecutive draws marked on the slip3.
  6. Optionally add a side game, remembering not to mark spots or numbers on that slip if you do1.
  7. Pay and take your ticket. The printed ticket shows your numbers, the draw numbers covered, and the entry value; the default is VND 10,000 if you did not mark a value3.
  8. Check the result at the checkwin machine or on the Vietlott SMS app once your draws have run3.
  9. If you win, keep the ticket, bring ID, and claim within the period, by bank transfer8.

A sensible first outing is one board, one or a few draws, VND 10,000 to VND 50,000 total, just to see how the slips, terminals and results all work. From there you can scale up to multi-draw tickets or try the side games, which many players find easier than picking numbers.

Common Questions

How much does a Vietlott Keno ticket cost?

Each entry costs VND 10,000, and that is also the default value if you do not mark a betting value on the slip. If you play several boards, side games or draws, the total is a multiple of VND 10,000.

How many numbers can I pick on one entry?

You choose a spot from 1 to 10, meaning you mark between one and ten numbers on a board. The draw then pulls 20 winning numbers from 01 to 80, and your prize depends on how many of your picks match.

How often are Vietlott Keno draws held?

Keno runs every day of the week from 06:04 to 21:54, with a new draw every 5 minutes, which comes to roughly 190 draws each day. Ticket sales continue throughout each draw period.

Can foreigners legally in Vietnam play Vietlott Keno?

Yes. Vietlott's rules allow Vietnamese citizens, Vietnamese people residing abroad, and foreigners who have legally entered Vietnam to play, as long as they are 18 or older.

What is the maximum I can win in a single draw?

Matching all 10 numbers on a spot 10 entry pays VND 2 billion, unless more than five entries match all 10 in the same draw, in which case the VND 10 billion is split among them. Across the top tiers combined, Vietlott caps total payouts for a single draw at VND 10 billion.

How do I check if my Keno ticket has won?

Scan your ticket at the checkwin machine at any Vietlott point of sale, or check results on the Vietlott SMS app. Results for each draw are also published on Vietlott's website.

Can I buy tickets for several draws at once?

Yes. You can select up to 30 consecutive draws in advance on a single play slip, and the ticket covers all of them.
