Most lottery games in Asia draw once a day or once a week. A fast-draw lottery, sometimes called a high-frequency lottery, turns that model on its head: the draw happens every few minutes, all day long, and you can buy a ticket for the next draw within moments of the last one finishing. This page explains what these games are, how the biggest one in Asia, Vietlott Keno, actually works on the counter, and where else games like it exist. For the broader picture of how draws and prize pools work, see how lotteries work.
What a fast-draw lottery is
A fast-draw lottery is a number game in which the operator holds draws at short intervals rather than on a weekly schedule. Vietnam's Ministry of Finance formally recognizes the category: the rules governing Vietlott's computerized number-selection lottery list "fast-draw number-selection lottery" as one of the permitted product types, alongside matrix number-selection games and number-series games, with any further products decided by the Ministry of Finance5. That recognition is what allows Vietlott to sell Keno as a quick-draw product alongside its other games.
The practical difference for you as a player is speed. With a weekly lotto you buy a ticket, wait days, and watch a draw. With a fast-draw game you can walk into a sales point, mark a slip, and see the result of your draw within minutes. That also changes the rhythm of play: because there is no long wait, these games are designed for short visits and repeated small stakes rather than one big ticket for a Saturday draw.
China used to have the largest fast-draw ecosystem in the region. Games such as Guangdong's Kuai Le Cai drew every 5 minutes, with draws running continuously day and night and numbered in sequence6. That ended in 2020: under a Ministry of Finance decision, high-frequency fast-draw games stopped selling new tickets from November 1, 2020, with each province allowed to keep at most one game in transition, and all remaining fast-draw game sales stopped by the 2021 Spring Festival4. So if you read older travel guides mentioning fast-draw Chinese lottery terminals, those games no longer exist.
Elsewhere, "fast" is relative. Ontario's DAILY KENO, for example, is a keno game with 20 numbers drawn from 1 to 70, but it holds only two draws a day, a midday and an evening draw8. Vietnam's Bingo18, sold only through the phone channel, sits closer to the fast-draw model, with a draw every 6 minutes from 6 a.m. to nearly 10 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays9. The distinguishing feature of a true fast-draw game is not the keno format itself but the interval: several draws an hour, every hour of the selling day.
Vietlott Keno: draws every few minutes all day
Vietlott Keno is the flagship fast-draw game in Asia. Ticket sales run every day of the week, Monday to Sunday, starting from about 6:00 in the morning and ending at 21:55 at night, and tickets are sold continuously throughout the duration of each draw period2. In other words, while one draw period is running, you are already buying into the next one.

How long is a draw period? Vietlott's own published pages give different intervals: the English how-to-play page says 10 minutes per draw, the Vietnamese rules say 8 minutes per draw, and the English product page says 5 minutes per period2. The honest answer is that the interval has changed over time and varies by document, but in every version the draw comes every few minutes, which means well over 100 draws a day. If you are planning around a specific draw, check the draw number printed on your ticket rather than the clock.
Because draws are so frequent, Keno works differently from Vietlott's other products in one more way: you can enter up to 30 consecutive draws with a single slip, far more than the 6 draws in advance allowed for Mega 6/45 or Power 6/552. A regular Keno player can buy a set of numbers in the morning and stay in the game all day without returning to the counter.
Tickets are sold at Vietlott sales points across the country, from dedicated outlets to counters inside shops; Vietlott publishes a full list of locations by province on its website, from An Giang in the south northward12. Play slips and pencils are available at the retail points, and you pay the entry value printed on the ticket you receive1. For more on where these outlets sit among Asia's other ticket sellers, see where to buy lottery tickets in Asia.
How a draw works: 20 numbers from 80
Each Keno draw selects 20 numbers, randomly chosen each draw3. Your entry wins a prize when enough of your chosen numbers match those 20 winning numbers, and the full result of every draw is published so you can check your ticket against it. The same 20-number format is used by quick-draw games in other countries, so if you have played a daily Keno game elsewhere, the Vietlott version will feel familiar.
Your ticket lists the numbers you picked, and you win by matching enough of the 20 drawn numbers. How many is "enough" depends on how many you picked in the first place, which is what the game calls your spot: you can choose anywhere from spot 1 (one number) to spot 10 (ten numbers)2. Picking one number and matching it wins a small fixed prize; picking ten and matching all ten wins the top prize. The full mechanics of keno-style matching, tiers and odds are covered in detail on our keno page, so this section sticks to what is specific to the Vietlott product.
Because the pool is 80 numbers and only 20 come out, roughly a quarter of the pool is drawn each time. That is what makes the game playable at speed: most tickets match something occasionally, small prizes come around often, and the near-misses are visible within minutes rather than after a week of waiting.
Filling in the play slip: boards, spots and MAY TU CHON
The Keno play slip has two number boards, board A and board B. You mark your chosen numbers on the boards, or, if you would rather let the machine choose, you mark the box labeled MÁY TỰ CHỌN ("machine picks") on board A or B and the terminal generates the numbers for you1. Each board you fill corresponds to one printed set of numbers on your ticket, so a slip with both boards filled gives you two entries.
A few rules keep the slip simple:
- You may pick a maximum of 10 numbers per entry on the basic play1.
- You choose your spot level, from 1 to 10, to tell the system how many numbers you are playing2.
- You mark the number of consecutive draws you want, up to 302.
- If you do not mark a betting value, the default of VND 10,000 applies2.
Once the slip is processed, you take the printed ticket and pay the entry value shown on it to the salesperson1. Keep that ticket: it is the only proof of your numbers, and it is what you will scan later to check results. If you are curious how this compares with the slips used by other games in the region, our page on lottery ticket prices and formats has more.
Costs and limits: VND 10,000 a ticket, no wager cap
Each Keno entry costs VND 10,000, and that is both the minimum and the default: if you leave the value section blank, the terminal charges VND 10,000 per set of numbers2. The same VND 10,000 value applies to every way of playing, basic and additional alike13.
Where Keno differs sharply from most Asian lotteries is the absence of a ceiling.
| Game | Wager cap | Advance purchase limit |
|---|---|---|
| Vietlott Keno | No limit on the amount wagered3 | Up to 30 consecutive draws11 |
| China's Sports Lottery, 7-star | CNY 20,000 for a single ticket4 | Not stated |
| China's Super Lotto | CNY 20,000 per basic bet, CNY 30,000 with the additional bet4 | Not stated |
| Vietlott's other games | Not stated | 6 draws in advance11 |
The design logic is that Keno stakes are small and frequent, so the limit is your own budget rather than the operator's rule. Our page on lottery spending limits compares the caps across games.
Prizes: VND 2 billion top prize and the VND 10 billion cap
The headline prize is VND 2 billion for matching 10 of 10 numbers at spot 103. Lower tiers pay fixed amounts per VND 10,000 entry, and the fixed amounts depend on how many winning entries there are. For example, at tier 8 (matching 8 of your 8 or more picked numbers), if fewer than 50 entries in a draw match 8 numbers, each winning entry receives VND 200 million3.

There is also a cap on the biggest payouts. The total paid for the top matching tiers, tiers 8, 9 and 10 combined, cannot exceed VND 10 billion per tier per draw3. Vietlott's published result pages spell out how the cap is applied: if there are 5 or fewer top-tier winners in a draw, each winner receives the full VND 2 billion; beyond that, the payout value per winner is the VND 10 billion cap divided by the number of winners13. In plain terms, a single spectacular winner gets the full prize, and a draw with many simultaneous top-tier winners splits a capped pool.
One more detail worth knowing: if Vietlott changes the number, structure or value of prizes, it announces the change in advance13. So the prize table you see printed at the counter is the one that applies, and any revision is publicized before it takes effect. For how Keno's prizes stack up against the region's biggest jackpots, see the biggest lottery jackpots in Asia.
Additional play options and the Odd/Even side game
Keno's basic play, picking numbers and matching them, is not the only way to enter. The play slip offers four additional play options, and they work completely differently: you are betting on the composition of the 20 drawn numbers rather than on specific numbers you picked. If you choose an additional play, you must not also mark the spot/odds section or the number boards; the additional play replaces the basic play on that entry1. The minimum bet is still VND 10,000 per set1.
The two side games most players encounter are:
- Odd/Even. You win based on how many even numbers appear among the 20 drawn. If 15 or more of the 20 drawn numbers are even, a VND 10,000 Odd/Even entry pays VND 200,000; a lower count of even numbers, 13 or 14, pays a smaller fixed amount3.
- Big/Small. You win based on how the drawn numbers fall across the pool. If at least 13 of the 20 drawn numbers come from the low half of the pool, 01 to 40, a VND 10,000 Small entry pays VND 26,000; the corresponding high-side outcome, with 11 or 12 numbers from 41 to 80, pays VND 10,0003.
These side bets are the closest thing Keno has to the even-money style bets you find in casino games, and they are popular precisely because the win conditions are easy to follow: you do not need to match specific numbers, just watch how the 20 balls distribute. Note that the payouts are fixed per VND 10,000 entry, so a bigger stake scales the payout proportionally.
Who can play: age, eligibility and refused prizes
Keno is open to three groups: Vietnamese citizens, Vietnamese people who reside abroad, and foreigners who have entered Vietnam legally2. Visitors with a valid entry can therefore play on the same terms as locals. Two further conditions apply: you must be at least 18 years old, and you must not be a person whose civil act capacity is restricted or lost under Vietnamese law2.
Vietlott also reserves the right to refuse payment of a prize to someone who entered while not qualified, and its rules say exactly that: ineligible persons who play can be refused their winnings1. So the eligibility rules are not fine print; they are enforced at payout. The age rule is covered in more detail on our page on the Vietlott minimum age, and the wider question of what gambling is open to visitors is covered in can I gamble in Vietnam.
Checking results and claiming winnings
The fastest way to check a Keno ticket is at the point of sale: scan the ticket through the checkwin machine at any Vietlott sales point2. The same machines work for Vietlott's other games, and you can also check results on the Vietlott SMS app11. Given that Keno draws happen every few minutes, the checkwin machine is really the only practical method; nobody checks 100-plus daily draws by hand.

For prizes, the payout rules distinguish small and large wins. For prizes of VND 10 million or less on tickets bought through the phone channel, the agent pays the winnings automatically into the winner's receiving account no later than 5 working days from the date the draw result is determined14. Larger prizes follow the standard Vietlott claim process, which our page on how to claim a lottery prize walks through. As with any lottery ticket, the physical ticket is your proof, so do not discard it until the prize is paid.
One caution that applies to checking results: only use the official Vietlott website, app and sales points. Vietlott has publicly warned customers about fraud schemes using its name, including fake online accounts that demand fees before paying prizes, and it has published guidance on how to buy Vietlott tickets officially and safely9. Our page on lottery scams covers the patterns to watch for.
Recent Vietlott draws and announcements
Vietlott publishes results for all of its games, and the quick-draw results are posted as soon as each draw is complete13. For the draw-based games, Max 3D holds draws on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and you can watch the live draw on TodayTV - SCTV2 or on Vietlott's Facebook fanpage. If there are any changes to the prizes' number, structure or value, Vietlott announces them in advance, so it is worth checking the official channels before a big entry.
Vietlott's other games follow slower calendars, and their draws are televised. Power 6/55 draws at 18:00 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with Jackpot 1 starting at a minimum of VND 30 billion and accumulating, and Jackpot 2 at a minimum of VND 3 billion15. Max 3D draws at 18:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays16. Both are broadcast live on TodayTV, SCTV2, or the Vietlott Facebook fanpage, so you can watch the draw itself rather than just the numbers16.
If you are looking for a sales point, Vietlott maintains a province-by-province list on its site; for example, An Giang province alone has multiple listed outlets, including one at Ấp Thị 2, Tổ 3, Xã Long Điền and another at 01 Đường Võ Văn Tần, KP Kiên Tân, Xã Kiên Lương12. Announcements about prize changes are made in advance through the same channels13, so the counter staff and the website are the two places to check before a big session.
Common Questions
How often is the Vietlott Keno draw?
Vietlott's own pages list the interval as 5, 8 or 10 minutes depending on the document. In practice, draws run every few minutes from about 6:00 in the morning until shortly before 22:00, seven days a week, with ticket sales continuous throughout each draw period.
What is the minimum bet in Vietlott Keno?
The minimum is VND 10,000 per set of numbers, and that is also the default if you leave the value section of the play slip blank. There is no upper limit on how much you can wager in total.
Can foreigners legally in Vietnam play Keno?
Yes. Vietnamese citizens, Vietnamese people residing abroad, and foreigners who have entered Vietnam legally may all play. You must also be at least 18 years old and have full civil act capacity.
How many draws in advance can I enter?
Up to 30 consecutive draws. You mark the number of draws on the play slip, and the same numbers are entered into each one. This is far more than Vietlott's other games, which allow at most 6 draws in advance.
How do I check whether my Keno ticket has won?
Take the ticket to a Vietlott sales point and scan it through the checkwin machine there. You can also check results on the Vietlott SMS app or on the results pages of the Vietlott website.
What happens if I choose an additional play option?
You mark one of the four additional play options on the slip, and you must not also mark the odds/multiplier section or the number boards. The additional plays, such as Odd/Even and Big/Small, pay fixed amounts based on the composition of the 20 drawn numbers.
What was the latest Power 6/55 or Max 3D result?
Power 6/55 draws at 18:00 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and Max 3D draws at 18:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Results are broadcast live on TodayTV, SCTV2 and the Vietlott Facebook page, and posted on the Vietlott website.
