What the Maharashtra State Lottery actually is

This is a traditional paper lottery run by the Government of Maharashtra. You buy a printed ticket, usually from a small licensed counter or agent, and the draw happens later. There is no online version of this lottery, no app and no way to play it from a laptop. The tickets are physical, and so is the claim process.

The department sells its schemes on behalf of the state government, and the paperwork for each week lists how many schemes are live at that moment. In the week of September 21 to 27, 2026, that was 27 traditional paper lottery schemes6. The following week, September 28 to October 4, 2026, the count was 247. The number moves because schemes open and close, so do not treat any single figure as permanent.

One thing matters more than anything else on this page: tickets are valid and saleable only within Maharashtra. The regulation for the Tejaswini monthly scheme states it plainly, and the same wording appears across the department's other schemes8. Tickets carry the line "For sale only in Maharashtra State." If you are in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur or anywhere else in the state, you are in the right place. If you are in Delhi, Bengaluru or outside India, you are not, and buying through a reseller does not change that.

Schemes on sale

The lottery sells a rotating set of named schemes. Some run weekly, some monthly, and a handful are one-off bumper draws tied to festivals.

Weekly schemes include Maharashtra Laxmi, drawn on Saturdays, Maharashtra Gold Mini on Thursdays, Sagarlaxmi and Maharashtra Diamond Mini on Mondays, and Maharashtra Mohini on Sundays1. The weekly draws are held every day of the week except three national holidays3.

Monthly schemes include Maharashtra Gajraj, Maharashtra Gaurav, Ganesh Laxmi and Tejaswini11. Gajraj runs as a monthly draw, and Gaurav has been running since November 202511. Tejaswini is a monthly draw with a first prize of INR 10 lakh2.

Ticket prices vary by scheme. The mini draws, Maharashtra Pearl Mini and Maharashtra Gold Mini, cost INR 101. Bumper draws generally cost INR 2002. Monthly and weekly schemes sit in between, and the price is printed on the ticket itself, so check before you hand over money.

Prize structures differ too. On the Ganesh Laxmi monthly scheme, the seventh prize is INR 250 each, awarded to 4,000 tickets across all series by random method, for a total of INR 10,00,00010. The same scheme pays an incentive prize of INR 9,000 to the nine series that did not produce the first prize winner10. Tejaswini runs the same INR 9,000 incentive for nine winners13. These are the kind of details that decide whether a ticket is worth buying, and they are printed on the scheme notice rather than explained at the counter.

Draw schedule

Draws happen constantly. The department describes its calendar as 27 weekly draws, 5 monthly draws and 6 yearly bumper draws3.

Weekly draws are held on all days except three national holidays3. Each day is tied to a named scheme. Monday belongs to Sagarlaxmi and Maharashtra Diamond Mini, Thursday to Maharashtra Gold Mini, Saturday to Maharashtra Laxmi, and Sunday to Maharashtra Mohini1. The Mohini weekly draw runs every Sunday9.

Draw times are usually in the late afternoon:

  • Weekly lotteries: 4.30 pm9
  • Daily draws at the Vashi office: 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm14
  • Sahyadri monthly draw, Friday September 11, 2026: 4.00 pm15
  • Mohini weekly draw, Sunday September 13, 2026: 4.30 pm15

Bumper draws are the exception. They are tied to a date and a festival rather than a weekday. The Maharashtra Din Bumper draw was set for May 8, 2026 at 4:00 pm12.

Bumper draws

Bumper draws are the big ones, and there are six each year3. They are tied to festivals and occasions, and the prize funds are much larger than the weekly schemes.

Ticket prices for bumpers are usually INR 2002. First prizes have reached INR 1 crore on the Diwali Bumper, the Dasara Bumper and the Pophali Bumper2. The Vin Bumper and the Nataraj Nivara Annual Bumper have paid first prizes of INR 10 lakh2.

Those print runs matter to a buyer. A smaller print run means fewer tickets in circulation, which is a different proposition from a scheme with tens of thousands of tickets out. The department publishes the numbers, so you can look them up before a bumper goes on sale.

Where to buy tickets and check results

Buy from a licensed retail agent. The department maintains a published agent list, and agents are listed by district and town, for example MAHALAXMI LOTTERY in NANDURBAR16. If a seller is not on that list, walk away.

Wholesale buyers get a discount. On the Ganesh Laxmi monthly scheme, purchases of 10,001 to 25,000 tickets carry a 20 percent discount including GST on face value10. That is aimed at agents and bulk buyers, not at someone picking up a single ticket at a counter.

Results are published in two places. The official result of each draw is available on the department website, lottery.maharashtra.gov.in, and is also printed in selected newspapers4. Check the website on draw day. Shop noticeboards, WhatsApp forwards and third-party result sites are not the official source, and a wrong number costs you a ticket.

Claiming prizes: up to INR 10,000 vs above

The claim process splits at INR 10,000, and the split is the single most useful thing to know before you buy.

Claiming prizes: up to INR 10,000 vs above
Prize amountWhere to claimWhat to bring
Up to INR 10,000The retail agent you bought from4Original ticket
Above INR 10,000Deputy Director, Maharashtra State Lottery, Vashi, Navi Mumbai4Original ticket and ID

Prizes up to INR 10,000 are claimed from the retail agent you bought the ticket from4. There is no need to travel to Navi Mumbai. The original ticket is required, and it stays with you until the cash is in hand.

Prizes above INR 10,000 go to the Deputy Director, Maharashtra State Lottery, Vashi, Navi Mumbai4. That is a trip to the office, not a counter transaction. Bring the original ticket and your identification.

One rule applies to every claim at every level: only one prize may be claimed per ticket10. If your ticket matches in more than one category, you claim one prize, not several. The department states this on the scheme notices for Ganesh Laxmi, Tejaswini and the earlier Tejaswini regulation10.

Claim deadline: 90 days from the draw date

You have 90 days from the draw date, and you must present the original ticket4. That is the whole rule.

Ninety days sounds generous until you lose a ticket. A paper ticket that has been through a wash, sat in a hot car or been folded into a wallet for three months is a ticket you cannot claim. Sign the back of it, put it somewhere flat and dry, and photograph it. The photograph will not substitute for the original, but it will remind you of the numbers and the draw date.

For comparison, other Indian state lotteries run shorter windows:

  • Sikkim: claims within 30 days of the draw, after which prizes are forfeited to the government18
  • Nagaland: claims within 30 days of the draw as published in its official gazette19
  • Maharashtra: 90 days from the draw date4

Maharashtra's 90 days is the longest of the three, and it is the reason a misplaced ticket here is not automatically a lost prize.

Tax on winnings and ticket sales

GST is levied on lottery ticket sales at the prevailing rates under the Goods and Services Tax Act 20176. That tax is built into the price you pay at the counter, so the INR 10 or the INR 200 on the ticket is what you hand over.

Maharashtra State Lottery documents do not set out a separate withholding rate on winnings. The tax treatment of lottery money varies sharply across Asia. In Korea, winnings over KRW 2,000,000 and up to KRW 300,000,000 are withheld at 22 percent, made up of 20 percent income tax plus 2 percent resident tax20. Anyone comparing lotteries across the region can assume the headline prize is not the amount that lands in the bank.

The office and how to reach it

The department's address appears in several forms across its own documents, which is worth knowing before you travel.

The office and how to reach it
  • Ticket sales office: T-Block, 1st Floor, Plot No. 7, Dana Bazar, APMC Market, Sector 19-V, Vashi, Navi Mumbai-40070510
  • Same address with Sector 19-B: Ganesh Laxmi, Tejaswini and Gaurav notices11
  • Application submission address: A-1, Additional Shop cum Godown, APMC Market, Sector 19-B, Vashi, Navi Mumbai-40070514

The sector number and the block letter differ between documents, so call before you go rather than assuming one is right.

Phone numbers are 022-27846720 and 022-278454814. The first appears on application forms and terms and conditions, the second on the prize claim page4. Both are Mumbai landlines.

The email address is maharashtrastatelottery@yahoo.co.in14. It is a general office inbox, not a claims desk, so do not rely on it for anything time sensitive.

If you are not in Maharashtra

This is where the practical answer gets short. Tickets are valid and saleable only within Maharashtra, and that is printed on the tickets themselves13. The department sells through licensed agents inside the state, and the agent list is organized by Maharashtra district and town16.

If you are a visitor to India, a foreign resident or an expat living outside Maharashtra, you cannot legally buy these tickets or claim on them. If you are in Maharashtra, the rules do not distinguish between citizens, residents and visitors at the point of sale. You buy a ticket at a licensed counter, you keep the original, and you claim within 90 days like anyone else.

The main office is at T-Block, 1st Floor, Plot No. 7, Dana Bazar, APMC Market, Sector 19-B, Vashi, Navi Mumbai-400705. Prize claims above INR 10,000 go to the Deputy Director at the same Vashi address. Call 022-27846720 or 022-27845481 before you travel.

The published numbers are 022-27846720 and 022-27845481. The first number appears on application forms and terms and conditions, the second on the prize claim page. Both are Mumbai landlines, so call during normal office hours on a working day.

Is there an email address for the Maharashtra State Lottery?

Yes. The department lists maharashtrastatelottery@yahoo.co.in as its contact address. It is a general office inbox rather than a claims desk, so treat any reply as slow and confirm anything important by phone or in person at the Vashi office.

Can I claim a small prize from the shop where I bought the ticket?

Yes. Prizes up to INR 10,000 can be claimed from the retail agent you bought the ticket from. You still need the original ticket, and only one prize can be claimed per ticket, so do not hand it over until you have been paid.

Where do I submit a claim for a prize above INR 10,000?

Claims above INR 10,000 go to the Deputy Director, Maharashtra State Lottery, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Bring the original ticket and your ID. Winners of larger amounts may have their name and photo published, so expect some publicity.

How long do I have to claim a prize?

You have 90 days from the draw date, and you must present the original ticket. After that the prize is gone. Sign the back of your ticket and store it somewhere flat and dry the moment you buy it.
