Most people think of poker when they hear "casino tournament," but baccarat and slot tournaments are a different animal. You are not playing against the other people at your table in the usual sense. You are playing the same game everyone else plays, but with tournament chips or credits, and the player who finishes with the most of them wins the prizes. This page walks through how both formats work, using real events from the Philippines and Macau as examples, from entry through to how prizes are paid.
How baccarat tournaments work
A baccarat tournament puts a group of players at one or more baccarat tables and gives everyone the same starting stack of tournament chips. Those chips have no cash value. They exist only to measure who played best. Over a fixed number of dealt hands, each player bets their stack on Player, Banker or side bets, just as in a normal game of baccarat, and the goal is to end with more chips than the people you are competing against.
The underlying game does not change. Baccarat is a guessing game of pure chance: two hands are dealt, one for Player and one for Banker, and the hand closest to a total of 9 points wins4. Four cards come out per round, two for each box, and if either hand totals 8 or 9 on the first two cards it is a natural win and the round ends immediately4. Most games use eight decks of cards5.
What changes in a tournament is the structure around the game:
- Fixed rounds. The CasinoPlus Wild Card Tournament plays 20 dealt hands per round, with a 25-second betting window for each hand1. The earlier CasinoPlus 1st Baccarat Tournament used the same 25-second window in early rounds and 35 seconds in the finals6.
- Free hands first. Before each round begins, the dealer plays three free hands with no betting allowed, so players can see the roadmap of the shoe before money moves1. The 1st Baccarat Tournament did the same, with three free games to display the roadmap before play started6.
- Ranking, not elimination. The Wild Card Tournament uses a ranking system: your chip count after the round is compared with everyone else's, and the top players advance1. In the 1st Baccarat Tournament's semi-finals, the top ten players sat at a single table for three rounds of about 30 minutes each, and only the player with the highest chips at each table advanced to the final6.
- One entry per person. Accounts with matching details, such as the same username, phone number, payment method or IP address, get one entry and one prize only1.
The strategic feel is different from cash baccarat. In a cash game you bet whatever you like and walk away whenever. In a tournament you are watching the clock and the leaderboard. If you are behind near the end, a minimum bet will not catch the leader, so players often swing for bigger bets, and if you are ahead you may bet small to protect the lead. The all-in rule in the Wild Card grand finals (covered below) exists precisely for players whose stacks have shrunk below the minimum bet.
CasinoPlus Baccarat Wild Card Tournament: entry, format and prizes
The Baccarat Wild Card Tournament 2025 is the flagship example of the online baccarat tournament format, run by Philippine operator CasinoPlus. Here is how it is put together.
Entry. You must be a registered CasinoPlus member who has completed KYC identity verification, and you must be 21 or older with a valid government-issued ID1. Players must be present in person and cannot be represented by anyone else1.
Format. Each match is a single-table ranking event with 20 dealt hands per round and a 25-second betting window per hand1. Every player starts with 5,000,000 tournament chips1. Before each round the dealer plays three free hands with betting closed1. The top 20 players qualify for the Grand Finals and are contacted by their VIP Manager with an invitation1. The Grand Finals themselves run three rounds of 20 dealt hands each1.
Betting limits. The main Player/Banker wager must be between 100,000 and 1,000,000 PHP per hand, and side bets run from 20,000 to 80,000 PHP1. If your chip count falls below the minimum betting limit, only an all-in bet on a main wager is allowed1.
Special finals rules. Two rules make the Grand Finals feel like a live TV final. First, card squeezing, the slow reveal of cards that is a signature of baccarat variants in Asia, is granted to the highest bettor on Player or Banker in each round of the final round only. It does not apply in the preliminary or semi-final rounds1. Second, on the last three dealt hands of every set, players must confirm their wagers in writing using a Secret Bet Card, so rivals cannot simply copy the leader's bets1.
Prizes. The prize pool is ₱10,000,0001. Prizes are credited to your registered CasinoPlus account within three business days, and winnings can be withdrawn freely1. The tournament runs from December 1, with the Wild Card ticket valid only for the December 20 Wild Card Tournament1.
CasinoPlus also ran an earlier land-based style event, the 1st Baccarat Tournament, in the Non Commission Baccarat/Super 6 category, with preliminaries, semi-finals, finals and an awarding ceremony6. Preliminaries usually ran from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM6. Each player started with P100,000 in tournament chips6. The champion took a P2,000,000 cash prize, second place P1,000,000 and third place P500,000, with a P10,000 consolation cash prize for finals participants who did not place6. The top ten players on the leaderboard received a P7,777 cash prize credited instantly, and the top twenty were eligible for the P10,000,000 deposit offer and received 10 free baccarat tournament vouchers6. Each tournament player was also allowed one guess in a side guessing game6.
A comparable land-based event is the Baccarat Tournament at Winford Resort and Casino Manila, open to Epic Rewards members in good standing who are at least 21, entered by invitation via a qualified list. Members register at the Membership counter on the 2nd floor and choose their preferred date and time7.
How slot tournaments work at Mocha venues in Macau
Slot tournaments flip the baccarat model around. Instead of a live dealer and a shoe of cards, everyone sits at an identical machine for a timed session and plays as fast as they can. The machine tracks your credits, and the highest score wins.
Mocha Clubs, Melco's chain of slot lounges in Macau, runs these events regularly. Slot machines are widely available in Macau, in slot lounges and most casinos8, and Mocha venues host the tournament circuit. The format is consistent across events:
- Reserved machines. The Mocha Annual Slot Tournament 2024 reserved twelve dedicated gaming machines for the event, all running the official game "5 Dragons Gold" at a denomination of $0.01, installed on the 1/F of Mocha Golden Dragon and kept for future tournaments2.
- Pre-loaded credits. You do not put money in. Each machine is pre-loaded with tournament credits, and money or TITO tickets are not accepted. Winning credits cannot be cashed out3. Starting credits vary by event: 80,000 Tournament Credits in the Annual Slot Tournament 20242 and the Altira Mocha Slot Tournament 20269, 100,000 in the Golden Dragon Slot Battle 202610, and 50,000 in the Slot Challenge 20263.
- Timed sessions. Sessions are short and intense. The Annual Slot Tournament runs 15-minute sessions2; the Slot Challenge 2026 runs 2-minute sessions3.
- Keep betting. If you stop betting for more than ten seconds during a session, you are disqualified2. The machine is there to be played, not admired.
- No double-up. The "double up" gamble function on the machines is switched off for tournaments2.
- Free games finish. If you hit a free game bonus feature before the clock runs out, the feature plays out to its conclusion even if it runs past the session end, and the score counts2.
Entry is earned through play, not bought. In the Slot Tournament III 2024, members earned one entry by accumulating 500 Mocha Points at any Mocha venue during the designated earning period11. In the Slot Challenge 2026, one entry per gaming day comes from earning 30 Mocha Points at any gaming machine3. Points are tracked on your rewards card, and earning points for entry does not deduct them from your account2.
Mocha Annual Slot Tournament: qualifying and final rounds
The Mocha Annual Slot Tournament 2024 shows the two-round structure these events use.
Qualifying Round. Held on November 30, 2024 at Mocha Golden Dragon, with registration opening at 13:202. Seventeen sessions ran from 13:30 to 17:30 in 15-minute intervals2. Each participant started with 80,000 Tournament Credits and played a 15-minute session, with the score determined by total credits earned within the session2. The 1st winner of each session received 3,000 Mocha Credits2. Results were announced the same day at Mocha Golden Dragon2.
Final Round. Held on December 14 and 15, 2024, with registration from 13:50 each day2. Twenty sessions ran from 14:00 to 16:15 in 15-minute intervals, sessions 1 to 10 on the 14th and 11 to 20 on the 15th2. The 1st or 2nd winner of each qualifying session earned one entry to the Final Round, and if two players tied for a qualifying spot, both got an entry2. Members could also earn one Final Round entry by accumulating an additional 800 Mocha Points during the earning period, which ran from November 4, 08:00 to December 15, 07:59; those points were not deducted from the account2. Final Round results were announced on December 15 at Mocha Golden Dragon2.
The fine print. Participants had to be present at the Registration Counter ten minutes before their assigned session time, with no exceptions for lateness2. The whole promotion ran from 08:00 on November 4 to 18:00 on December 15, 20242. Winners had to claim prizes before 07:59 on December 23 at the Mocha Club counter in any Mocha venue2. Employees of Melco Resorts (Macau) Limited, its advertising and promotional agencies, and their family and household members were ineligible2.
Mocha Slot Challenge: sessions, credits and prizes
The Mocha Slot Challenge 2026 is the everyday version of the format: shorter sessions, smaller prizes, run weekly over a month.

When and where. The promotion ran from 08:00 on March 4, 2026 to 18:00 on April 7, 2026, at Mocha Golden Dragon's 1/F and the slot floor on level 2 of the Altira casino3. Sessions ran every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at Altira, and every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at Mocha Golden Dragon3.
Entry. Mocha members earned one entry per gaming day by accumulating 30 Mocha Points at any gaming machine at any Mocha venue or the Altira slot floor3. Each member could redeem one entry per gaming day and play one session per day3.
The session. Each participant started with 50,000 Tournament Credits and played a 2-minute session3. Before playing, you had to be at the Registration Counter, either at Mocha Golden Dragon 1/F or Altira Slot level 2, ten minutes before your assigned session, where you drew a lucky ball for your machine number3. Stop betting for more than ten seconds and you were disqualified3.
Prizes. Paid in Mocha Credits: 38,000 for 1st place, 18,000 for 2nd, 8,000 for 3rd, and 1,800 each for 4th through 10th3. New sign-up Mocha Club members who finished with a score of 55,000 or above earned an extra 100 Mocha Credits3. Results were announced at 18:00 on April 7, 2026 at the Altira slot floor3.
The wider Mocha calendar shows how the same skeleton gets reused with different numbers. The Altira Mocha Slot Tournament 2026 started players with 80,000 Tournament Credits and paid 88,000 Mocha Credits to the winner, 38,000 to 2nd, 18,000 to 3rd, 8,800 to 4th and 3,800 each for 5th through 20th, with results announced on August 23, 2026 at Altira Slot level 212. Participants could get one entry per tournament date, and members invited by management got an entry if they had gaming activity in the casino within 30 days before the promotion started9. Everyone who completed a session got a lucky draw ticket, valid only that day, deposited before 16:25, with three winners drawn on each tournament day9. The Altira Slot Tournament 2026 was open to all Mocha members, with results on June 28, 202613. The Golden Dragon Slot Battle 2026 used 100,000 starting credits and the same ten-minute check-in rule10. There is even a daily new-member challenge, where a score above 180,000 Tournament Credits earned 1,000 Mocha Credits13.
Entry rules: membership, KYC and age limits
Across both formats, entry follows the same pattern: you need to be a member, verified, and old enough.
- Age. The CasinoPlus Wild Card Tournament requires participants to be 21 or older with a valid government-issued ID1. Mocha events in Macau require participants to be 21 or above2. The Winford Manila baccarat tournament is also 21 and above7. The Philippine regulatory standard backs this up: only persons 21 and above may register in the player membership system14.
- Membership and KYC. CasinoPlus requires a registered account with completed KYC authentication1. Mocha events require Mocha Club membership, with entry earned through points from play2. Winford Manila requires Epic Rewards membership in good standing and not on the barred list7.
- No buy-ins in the Philippines. Under PAGCOR's casino regulatory manual, promotional baccarat tournaments must be strictly promotional in nature, and no entry fees, buy-ins or any form of joining fee may be collected from players14. So when a Philippine casino invites you to a baccarat tournament, entry comes through qualification or invitation, not a cash payment.
- In person only. You cannot send a proxy. CasinoPlus states players must be present and cannot be represented by others1, and Mocha requires personal check-in at the registration counter before every session2.
- One entry per person. Matching account details mean one entry and one prize1, and Mocha caps entries at one per gaming day3.
Scoring, betting limits and time limits
Scoring is simple in both formats: whoever has the most at the end wins.
In baccarat, your score is your tournament chip count after the final dealt hand. The Wild Card Tournament ranks players on chips across 20 hands per round1. In the 1st Baccarat Tournament, only the top player by chips at each semi-final table advanced to the final6.
In slots, your score is the total credits on your machine when the session clock ends, ranked highest to lowest2. Because everyone plays the same game on the same denomination, the difference between players is speed and luck within the time limit.
Time limits are strict and worth knowing before you sit down:
| Event | Session or round length | Betting window |
|---|---|---|
| CasinoPlus Wild Card Tournament | 20 dealt hands per round | 25 seconds per hand |
| CasinoPlus 1st Baccarat Tournament semi-finals | 3 rounds, about 30 minutes each | 25 seconds per hand, 35 seconds in the finals |
| Mocha Annual Slot Tournament 2024 | 15 minutes per session | Keep betting or disqualified after 10 seconds idle |
| Mocha Slot Challenge 2026 | 2 minutes per session | Same 10-second rule |
Sources:1
If you miss the betting window in the Wild Card Tournament, the system automatically places a minimum bet on Player for you1, so you are never skipped entirely. In Mocha slot sessions, idling is punished instead: more than ten seconds without a bet and you are out of the session2.
What happens if a tournament is interrupted or tied
Interruptions are handled plainly. If the baccarat tournament is interrupted by unexpected events such as card anomalies or server issues, the match is considered canceled and tickets are refunded to players1. That is the whole policy: no replay, no partial ranking, just your entry back.

Ties work differently in the two formats. In baccarat itself, a tie between the Player and Banker hands means neither hand wins or loses, and the coup is dealt again15. In a tournament context, what matters is ties between players. Mocha's rule is to split the prize: winners with tied scores equally split the total of the applicable rewarded prize amounts, with all prizes rounded down to the hundred2. So two players tied for 1st in a session would share the 1st and 2nd place prizes between them. In the Annual Slot Tournament's qualifying round, a tie for a qualifying spot meant both tied players earned an entry to the Final Round2.
Prizes, payouts and withdrawal rules
Prizes come in three currencies depending on the event: real cash, account credits, or club points.
Cash. The CasinoPlus 1st Baccarat Tournament paid straight cash: P2,000,000 for the champion, P1,000,000 for second, P500,000 for third, P7,777 for the top ten on the leaderboard and P10,000 consolation for finalists who missed out6.
Account winnings. The Wild Card Tournament's ₱10,000,000 prize pool is distributed to players' registered CasinoPlus accounts within three business days, and the winnings can be withdrawn freely1. That last point matters: tournament winnings at this operator are withdrawable cash.
Mocha Credits. Mocha slot events pay in Mocha Credits, from 88,000 for a tournament winner down to 1,800 for tenth place in the Slot Challenge3. Winners must claim prizes in person at the Mocha Club counter at any venue, within a stated deadline, which was 07:59 on December 23, 2024 for the Annual Slot Tournament2.
One thing to keep straight: tournament chips and Tournament Credits are never real money. The 5,000,000 chips in the Wild Card Tournament1 and the 80,000 credits in a Mocha session2 are scoring tools. The prize is what the operator pays out afterward, and the entry, in the Philippine case, cannot be sold to you at all14.
If you are curious how these compare with card-room events, poker tournaments run on a similar knockout logic but with very different structures, and the casinos and integrated resorts that host them usually publish tournament calendars at their membership counters. For a first visit, the practical checklist is short: bring your ID, confirm your membership and points balance, arrive at the registration counter ten minutes early, and keep betting until the clock stops.
Common Questions
How much are the starting chips in a baccarat tournament?
It depends on the event. The CasinoPlus Wild Card Tournament gives each player 5,000,000 tournament chips, while the first CasinoPlus baccarat tournament started everyone at P100,000. These are tournament chips, not real money, and only decide your ranking.
How long is each betting round?
In the CasinoPlus Wild Card Tournament you get 25 seconds to place a bet in each round. The 35-second betting period belongs to the 1st Baccarat Tournament finals. If you do not bet in time, the system automatically places a minimum bet on Player for you.
Who can enter the Mocha slot tournaments?
Mocha Club members aged 21 or above. Entry is usually earned by playing: for example, 30 Mocha Points at any gaming machine gets you one entry to the Slot Challenge, or 500 points for the older Slot Tournament III. Staff of Melco Resorts and their families are excluded.
What is the card squeezing rule in the grand finals?
In the Wild Card Tournament grand finals, the highest bettor on Player or Banker in each round gets to squeeze the cards. It only applies in the final round, not the preliminary or semi-final rounds.
What happens if I don't place a bet in time?
In the baccarat tournament the system places a minimum bet on Player automatically. In Mocha slot tournaments it is stricter: if you leave the machine without betting for more than ten seconds, you are disqualified from the session.
Can someone else play in my place?
No. CasinoPlus requires players to be present in person and says they cannot be represented by anyone else. Mocha events also require you to check in at the registration counter yourself before each session.
When are tournament results announced?
Usually the same day at the venue. The Mocha Slot Challenge 2026 results were announced at 18:00 on April 7, 2026 at the Altira slot floor. CasinoPlus pays prizes into your account within three business days.
How do I register for a slot tournament session?
Go to the registration counter at the venue, either Mocha Golden Dragon 1/F or Altira Slot on level 2, ten minutes before your assigned session. You draw a lucky ball for your machine number, and if you are late you lose your slot.
