Where it is and how it started
Altira Macau stands in Taipa, at the junction of Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen and Avenida de Kwong Tung, a short hop from the Cotai Strip and the airport side of Macau1. The property opened as Crown Macau in May 2007, and it was conceived from the start as a high-end play: an integrated resort in Taipa aimed at Asian VIP rolling chip customers, a segment that dominated Macau gaming in that era6.
That VIP identity has faded. The junket-driven VIP business contracted sharply across Macau from the mid-2010s, and today Altira is a quieter, smaller-scale property focused on the hotel and the mass-market floor. If you are comparing options, our pages on casinos in Macau and gambling in Macau give the wider picture.
Casino floor: tables, machines and the Mocha Club
The gaming space covers roughly 17,128.8 square meters of gaming and back-of-house area, which sounds large but is mostly spread across levels rather than one big showfloor2. As of the end of 2024 the casino operated 41 gaming tables and 82 gaming machines run under the Mocha brand2. A few years earlier, in 2020, the count was around 97 tables and 110 machines, so the floor has slimmed down along with the shift away from VIP play7.

The machines sit in a Mocha Club, part of the Mocha Clubs network that Melco also runs at City of Dreams Macau and Studio City Macau. Mocha describes itself as one of the largest non-casino-based electronic gaming machine operations in Macau8. Inside a Mocha Club you find slot machines plus electronic table games, with baccarat, roulette and sic bo the most popular of the electronic table offerings9. If you want the background on the chain, see Mocha Clubs.
Like all Macau casinos, the floor is open 24 hours a day3. For a sense of how the games themselves work, our pages on baccarat, sic bo and slot machines in Macau cover the basics.
Hotel rooms and facilities
The tower holds 216 hotel rooms, per the operator's 2024 filing2. An earlier filing put the count at approximately 230 rooms at the end of 2020, so the room stock has been trimmed slightly along with the rest of the property7. By Macau standards this is a small hotel: compare the Venetian Macao with its 2,841 standard suites, and you see that Altira trades scale for intimacy.
The rooms are pitched at the upper end, a legacy of the Crown Macau days when the property competed for high rollers who expected suite-level comfort. Today the hotel works well if you want a quieter base in Taipa with gaming in the same building, rather than the mega-resort experience of Cotai.
Who can play
You must be at least 21 years old to enter gaming areas in Macau, and that applies to everyone, visitors and residents alike5. Beyond age, Macau law bars certain people from casino floors: persons under guardianship, undischarged bankrupts, public administration staff unless authorized or on duty, off-duty casino employees, anyone intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, and people carrying weapons, explosives or recording devices10. These rules apply across all Macau casinos, not just Altira; our page on casino entry rules in Macau has the details.
Macau also runs a self-exclusion system: a person can ask to be barred from all or part of the city's casinos, and the request is handled through the regulator's responsible-gaming channels11. If you or someone you know wants that option, see self-exclusion from Macau casinos.
Mocha Club membership: points and credits
Play at the machines is tracked through the Mocha Club membership card. Points accumulate as you play, and those points are the currency for tournament entry: the June 2026 tournament required 500 Mocha Points earned on Mocha machines during the earning period for your first entry4, while the separate Mocha Slot Challenge 2026 asked for 30 Mocha Points per gaming day for one entry12.

Prizes from tournaments are paid in Mocha Credits rather than cash. Credits are loaded automatically into your Club account within 24 hours after the promotion ends, are activated after another 24 hours, must be used all at once, and expire 7 days after they are granted4. Keep that expiry in mind: win on a Sunday and you have about a week to spend the credits on machine play.
Slot tournaments at Altira Slot, level 2
Altira runs slot tournaments at Altira Slot, located on level 2 of the casino, on a bank of dedicated machines. Two editions are scheduled in 2026:
- Altira Slot Tournament 2026, held on June 27 and June 28, 2026, with results announced on June 28 at Altira Slot4.
- Altira Mocha Slot Tournament 2026, held on August 22 and August 23, 2026, with results announced on August 23 at Altira Slot13.
Both tournaments use "5 Dragons Deluxe" as the official game, played on twelve dedicated gaming machines reserved for the event, all set at a $0.10 denomination4. The June tournament's promotion period ran from 08:00 on May 18 to 18:00 on June 28, with the points-earning and entry-redemption window from May 18 at 08:00 to June 28 at 07:594. The August edition ran from 08:00 on July 13 to 18:00 on August 2313.
How the tournaments work: sessions, credits and entry
Each session lasts 15 minutes, and every participant starts with 80,000 Tournament Credits pre-loaded on the machine4. Those credits exist purely for scoring: money and TITO tickets are not accepted on tournament machines, and winning credits cannot be cashed out4. The "double up" gamble feature on the machines is switched off for tournament play, so your score is what the reels give you4.

Registration for the June tournament opened at 13:50 on each tournament day4. The August edition ran sessions every 15 minutes on August 22, starting at 14:00 and continuing at 14:15, 14:30, 14:45, 15:00, 15:15, 15:30, 15:45, 16:00 and 16:1513.
Entry works like this:
- You can get a maximum of one entry per tournament date4.
- For the June tournament, the first entry required 500 Mocha Points earned on Mocha machines at any venue during the earning period4. For the August edition, members invited by management received one entry, provided they had gaming activity in the casino within 30 days before the promotion started13.
- On the final day only (June 28 for the June tournament, August 23 for the August tournament), members could redeem a second entry by earning an additional 1,000 Mocha Points on Mocha machines during the designated earning period; the points are not deducted from your account4.
Everyone who completes one tournament session also gets one Lucky Draw ticket, valid for the same day only, which must be deposited before 16:25 on each tournament day4.
Prizes and how to claim them
Prizes are paid in Mocha Credits, ranked by final score. For the August 2026 tournament the published structure was:
| Place | Prize |
|---|---|
| 2nd winner | 38,000 Mocha Credits |
| 3rd winner | 18,000 Mocha Credits |
| 4th winner | 8,800 Mocha Credits |
| 5th to 20th winner | 3,800 Mocha Credits per person |
Diamond-tier Mocha Club members who finish in the top three earn extra credits on top: 50,000 for a Diamond member in 1st place, 20,000 for 2nd and 10,000 for 3rd13. If scores are tied, the tied winners split the total prize amount for those places equally, with all prizes rounded down to the nearest hundred4.
Claiming works in two steps. Ranking prizes are credited automatically to your Club account within 24 hours after the promotion ends4. Lucky Draw prizes are different: winners must approach the Lucky Draw stage at Altira Slot, level 2, within two minutes of being announced, carrying original valid ID and their Club membership card, or the prize is forfeited and redrawn4. Any prize that needs to be claimed in person must be collected at the Mocha Club counter in any Mocha venue before the deadline: for the August tournament, that is 07:59 on August 31, 20264.
Who could not enter
The tournaments are open to all Mocha members aged 21 or above, but the terms exclude employees, temporary employees, agents, successors and assignees of Melco Resorts (Macau) Limited, its advertising agencies and promotional companies, along with their family and household members4. The general casino entry restrictions described earlier also apply, so anyone barred from the floor is barred from the tournament.
When a tournament is canceled
Both 2026 editions carry the same condition: if fewer than 80 participants register in total, the tournament is canceled in all sessions4. There is no partial run and no reduced-field version; it simply does not happen. If you have traveled specifically for a tournament day, it is worth registering early rather than walking in at the last session, both to secure your slot and to help the field clear the 80-player minimum.
