Melco Mocha

Melco Mocha

The Mocha clubs are Melco's slot-machine lounges in Macau, licensed under its casino concession. Entry is 21 and up, they are open to visitors and residents alike, and they run slot machines rather than table games.

Melco Resorts (Macau) Limited: the concession and what it licenses

Melco Resorts (Macau) Limited holds one of Macau's casino concessions, and the Mocha clubs sit inside it. The concession covers three licensed casinos, Altira Casino, City of Dreams Casino and Studio City Casino, plus a set of additional locations the Chief Executive approved after hearing the Gaming Committee2.

That second list is where the Mocha clubs live. The concession contract names Grand Dragon Casino and six Mocha clubs as permitted locations: Mocha Golden Dragon, Mocha Grand Dragon, Mocha Royal, Mocha Sintra, Mocha Kuong Fat and Mocha Inner Harbour2. In practice this means the Mocha clubs are not separate businesses with their own licenses. They operate under Melco's concession, which is why the company's own filings describe its licensed venues as Altira Macau, City of Dreams, Studio City, Casino Oceanus and the Mocha Clubs together3.

For a player, the practical point is simple. A Mocha club is a licensed Macau gaming venue, subject to the same entry rules and the same regulator as any casino in the city. It is not a private club, not a members-only room, and not an unlicensed operation.

The Mocha clubs: which venues exist and where

The Mocha brand has changed shape over the years. Melco has opened clubs, closed clubs and moved machines between them, so the list you find online may not match what is open today.

The Mocha clubs: which venues exist and where

The current operator page lists four Mocha locations in Macau5. Older pages and press coverage name more, including venues that have since shut.

The pattern is a brand that consolidates rather than expands, with machines from closed clubs redistributed to Melco's other venues4.

The venues most often named in current listings are:

  • Mocha Inner Harbour, on Macau peninsula near the inner harbor waterfront7
  • Mocha Hotel Royal, in the lobby of the Royal Hotel on Estrada da Vitoria8
  • Mocha Sintra, in the Sintra Hotel lobby on Avenida D. Joao IV7
  • Mocha Golden Dragon, in the Golden Dragon Hotel lobby on Rua de Malaca in NAPE7

Because closures have happened more than once, treat any list as a snapshot. If you are planning a trip around a specific club, confirm it is still trading before you go.

Entry rules: who may enter a Mocha club

The entry rule is the same as for every casino in Macau: you must be 21 or older1. Anyone under 21 is not allowed in9. This is not a soft guideline. Staff can and do check, and photo ID showing your date of birth is what settles it.

Beyond age, the law lets concessionaires bar people they consider unsuitable from entering or staying, as long as they apply that power without discriminating on sex, race, nationality, residence, language or religion10. In plain terms, a club can turn you away, but it cannot turn you away because of where you are from or what language you speak.

Two specific bars are written into the rules. Entry is refused to anyone who is notoriously drunk or under the effect of drugs11. That is worth knowing if you are coming from a dinner or a bar. Turn up visibly intoxicated and you will not get past the door.

Macau also runs a self-exclusion system. A person can apply to be barred from all or part of Macau's casinos12. If you have placed yourself on that list, the clubs are required to keep you out, and that applies across venues rather than just the one you named.

There is no dress code worth planning around and no membership requirement. Bring ID, be 21, be sober, and you are in.

Games on offer: what you will find at the Mocha slot clubs

Mocha clubs are slot venues. The machines are the product, and the clubs are built around them rather than around tables.

Macau's tourism authority describes slot machine lounges as places with the newest slot games in a comfortable setting, usually with a 24-hour coffee shop and food and beverage service9. That is a fair description of the Mocha format: a room of machines, somewhere to sit, and something to eat or drink without leaving. Slot machines in Macau generally come in a range of themes and play modes, and you will find them in slot lounges and most casinos across the city13.

One Mocha venue shows how the brand fits into a wider resort. Altira Macau runs 82 gaming machines under the Mocha brand3. That is a useful number to hold in your head: a Mocha room is a machine floor, not a table floor, and the scale is measured in dozens to low hundreds of machines rather than in hundreds of tables.

If you want table games, the Mocha clubs are not the place. Melco's table gaming sits in its main casinos, and Macau's larger properties run full table floors alongside their slots. For comparison, MGM Macau runs 1,174 slot machines and 427 gaming tables with VIP and private gaming areas14. That is the scale of a full integrated resort, and it is a different experience from a hotel-lobby slot club.

What you will not find at a Mocha club is a poker room, a baccarat pit or a VIP table area. Go for the machines, the convenience and the location, and set your expectations there.

Responsible gambling recognition: Mocha Dragon, Mocha Sun Kio and Mocha Royal

Macau's gaming regulator runs a responsible gambling assessment, and venues are graded against it. In 2024, three Mocha clubs were recognized as responsible gambling model venues by the Responsible Gambling Working Group: Mocha Dragon, Mocha Sun Kio and Mocha Royal3.

That recognition is a formal label rather than a marketing line. It comes out of the responsible gambling execution indicators that the regulator applies to operators, and it is awarded to specific venues rather than to a brand as a whole3. If you are choosing between Mocha locations and the responsible gambling standard matters to you, those three are the ones that carry the recognition.

Macau also places responsible gambling information kiosks in a set of casinos across the city, including Studio City Casino, Wynn Palace Casino, Galaxy Macau Casino, The Parisian Macao Casino, MGM Cotai Casino, The Venetian Macao Casino and Grand Lisboa Palace Casino15. Those kiosks are in the larger resorts rather than in the Mocha clubs, so if you want printed information or a self-assessment tool, the nearest one may be at a bigger property.

Resident or visitor: which rules apply to you

This is the part where most guides get vague, so here it is plainly: for the Mocha clubs, the rules do not differ by residency. The 21-year age limit applies to everyone entering a casino in Macau1. There is no separate tourist entry fee, no local-only session, and no requirement to show a Macau ID rather than a passport.

That is worth stating because Macau does have rules that treat people differently in other contexts, and because other Asian jurisdictions do split residents from visitors. Macau's casino entry rule is age-based, not nationality-based. A visitor from Hong Kong, mainland China, Japan or anywhere else walks in on the same terms as a Macau resident, provided they are 21 or over16.

The one thing that applies to everyone equally is the exclusion system. If a person has been excluded from Macau's casinos, or has applied for self-exclusion, the clubs must keep them out regardless of where they live12. That is the only status that changes your access, and it is a personal one rather than a residency one.

Health screening rules have applied at Macau hotels and integrated resorts at various points, with entrants required to have a body-temperature check and present a valid Macao Health Code result17. Those requirements have come and gone with public health conditions, so check the current position close to your travel date rather than relying on an old page.

Getting there: locations and transport

The Mocha clubs are spread across Macau peninsula and the NAPE area, which makes them easy to reach on foot or by short taxi ride from most of the city's hotel districts.

Mocha Inner Harbour sits at Rua do Guimaraes 286-312, Rua Nova do Comercio 2-12 and Rua de Constantino Brito 107. It is on the peninsula near the inner harbor waterfront, within walking distance of the historic center. If you are coming from the Senado Square area, this is the closest Mocha club to the old town.

Mocha Hotel Royal is in the Royal Hotel lobby at Estrada da Vitoria 2-48. That puts it on the peninsula, uphill from the main waterfront, in the area between the city center and the Guia hill side.

Mocha Sintra is in the Sintra Hotel lobby on Avenida D. Joao IV7. This is a central peninsula location, close to the main commercial streets and a short walk from several of the city's older hotel properties.

Mocha Golden Dragon is in the Golden Dragon Hotel lobby on Rua de Malaca in NAPE7. NAPE is the reclamation area south of the peninsula, home to a cluster of hotels and casinos, and it is walkable from the Macau Tower side of the city.

For all four, a taxi is the simplest option if you are coming from Cotai. The peninsula and Cotai are connected by bridges, and the drive is short outside peak hours. Macau's public buses cover the peninsula well, and the hotel lobbies these clubs sit in are established stops on most routes.

If you are planning a wider Macau trip, the Mocha clubs work well as a stop between bigger venues. City of Dreams Macau and StarWorld Hotel and Casino are both Melco-adjacent or nearby options on the peninsula and Cotai sides, and Grand Lisboa is a short walk from the Inner Harbour club. Common Questions

What is the minimum age to enter a Mocha club in Macau?

You must be 21 or older to enter any casino in Macau, and that includes the Mocha slot clubs. Bring photo ID showing your date of birth. Anyone under 21 is not allowed in, and staff can ask you to leave if they cannot confirm your age.

Do I need to be a Macau resident to play at Mocha clubs?

No. Mocha clubs are open to visitors, foreign residents and locals on the same terms. The only entry conditions are being 21 or over and not being barred or excluded. There is no residency requirement and no local membership needed.

Are the Mocha clubs part of Melco's casino concession?

Yes. Melco Resorts (Macau) Limited holds a Macau casino concession, and the Mocha clubs sit inside it. The concession contract lists the Mocha clubs alongside Melco's three main casinos, so they operate under the same license rather than as separate businesses.

Which Mocha venues were named responsible gambling model venues?

Mocha Dragon, Mocha Sun Kio and Mocha Royal were recognized as responsible gambling model venues in 2024 by Macau's Responsible Gambling Working Group. The recognition comes from the responsible gambling indicators assessment that Macau's gaming regulator runs.

Where is Mocha Inner Harbour located?

Mocha Inner Harbour sits on Macau peninsula near the inner harbor waterfront, at Rua do Guimaraes 286-312, Rua Nova do Comercio 2-12 and Rua de Constantino Brito 10. It is a short walk from the historic center and the Inner Harbour area.

Can tourists visit Mocha Hotel Sintra and Mocha Golden Dragon?

Yes, if you are 21 or over. Both are hotel-lobby slot clubs, Mocha Sintra at the Sintra Hotel on Avenida D. Joao IV and Mocha Golden Dragon at the Golden Dragon Hotel on Rua de Malaca in NAPE. Visitors and residents enter on the same terms.
