Location and how to get there

Galaxy Macau sits in Cotai, the strip of reclaimed land between Taipa and Coloane where most of Macau's large resorts are clustered. The address is Estrada da Baia de Nossa Senhora da Esperanca, s/n, Cotai, Macau5. The resort's own contact number is +853 2888 0888, and there is a guest relations hotline at +853 8883 39985.

Location and how to get there

If you are flying in, Macau International Airport is about 3.5 kilometers away, roughly a 10-minute drive4. The airport is on Taipa, so you do not cross into the peninsula to reach the resort.

From the mainland China border, Hengqin Port (also called Lianhu Port) is about 500 meters away, a drive of around 5 minutes4. A free shuttle bus runs between Hengqin Port and Galaxy Macau from 09:00 to 02:00, with an average journey of 5 to 10 minutes5.

Shuttle schedules differ by route, so check the last bus if you plan to rely on it:

Once you are in Cotai, several other casinos are within a short walk. Within about 10 minutes on foot you can reach the Venetian Macao, Macau Studio City, Galaxy Golden Dragon Casino, and Yacht Club Casino4. Broadway Macau is even closer, about 90 seconds away through an air-conditioned footbridge6.

Entry rules: who can enter the casino floor

The minimum age to enter any casino in Macau is 21. This is set in Macau law, and Galaxy Macau enforces it strictly: the resort states that people under 21 are prohibited from entering its casino areas7. The same rule applies across all Macau casinos, and it applies to everyone regardless of nationality or residency1.

In practice, this means you need to be 21 or older to walk onto the gaming floor, whether you are a visitor, a foreign resident, or a local. Casino staff supervising entry can ask you for proof of age, and they can refuse entry if you will not show it9. Bring your passport or another photo ID. If you look young, expect to be asked.

The law also allows casino operators to bar anyone they consider unsuitable from entering or staying, as long as they do not discriminate on grounds of sex, race, nationality, residence, language, or religion12. In practice, this is rarely something an ordinary visitor runs into.

There is also a formal exclusion system in Macau. Under Law No. 10/2012, a person can be banned from casinos either at their own request or at the request of a third party13. If you have been placed on that list, you will be turned away.

For most readers, the practical points are simple: be 21 or over, carry photo ID, do not bring a camera or recording equipment onto the floor, and do not enter if you have been drinking heavily.

Tables and games on offer

Galaxy Macau was built with capacity for up to 950 gaming tables in total3. Phase 1, which opened in May 2011, had approximately 450 tables and 1,500 slot machines3. Phase 2 added capacity for up to 500 more tables and over 1,000 additional slots3.

The gaming floor space is substantial. Phase 1 has 39,000 square meters of gaming area, and Phase 2 added another 30,000 square meters3.

The games on the floor are the standard Macau mix: baccarat, which dominates in Macau, along with sic bo, roulette, blackjack, and other table games, plus slot machines and electronic gaming terminals. If you want background on one of the traditional Macau table games, see our page on Fan-Tan and Sic Bo.

Table minimums vary by pit and by time of day. On a quiet weekday afternoon you will find lower minimums than on a Saturday night. The resort does not publish a fixed minimum, so the practical approach is to walk the floor and look at the placards on each table before you sit down.

The casino floor is open 24 hours a day, every day1. There is no cover charge and no membership required to play. You do not need to be a hotel guest.

Expansion phases and capacity

Galaxy Macau opened in phases. Phase 1 opened in May 20113. Construction of Phase 2 began shortly after, and it was targeted for completion in mid-20153. Phase 2 and the rebranded Broadway Macau both opened on May 27, 20156.

Expansion phases and capacity

The resort as a whole has over 3,600 hotel rooms across six luxury hotels3. Two of those hotels are Banyan Tree Macau and Hotel Okura Macau, both located inside the Galaxy Macau integrated resort14.

Galaxy Entertainment, the company behind the resort, operates five casinos in Macau16. The group's licensed casino at this address is formally known as Galaxy Macau Casino, located at Estrada da Baia de Nossa Senhora da Esperanca, Cotai17.

For context on scale, no other Cotai property reaches Galaxy Macau's table count. The Venetian Macao had 632 gaming tables, the Londoner Macao had 479, the Parisian Macao had 273, and the Plaza Macao had 142 as of the end of 202218. Sands Macao had 159 tables18. MGM Macau had 417 tables in 2015 and 427 tables in an earlier filing19. MGM Cotai was built with capacity for up to 500 tables, with the actual allocation determined by the Macau government before opening19.

Galaxy Macau's own capacity of up to 950 tables places it among the larger floors in Cotai, though the actual number in operation at any time depends on government allocation and market conditions.

Practical details for your visit
