Corona Casino Phu Quoc: what it is and where it is

Corona Casino sits on Bai Dai beach in the north of Phu Quoc island, inside the Corona Resort & Casino complex at Bai Dai Area, Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province, Vietnam1. It opened in 2019 as the first international-standard casino in Vietnam allowed to welcome Vietnamese citizens, and it remains the only licensed casino on Phu Quoc open to both international guests and Vietnamese players6.

The gaming floor covers 18,800 square meters, which puts it among the largest in Southeast Asia8. The whole complex is part of a $2 billion resort development, and the casino sits alongside VinWonders theme park, Vinpearl Safari, Vinpearl Golf and the Grand World entertainment district, so the area around it is a full resort destination rather than a standalone gambling hall9.

The casino operates round the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the restaurants and bars inside the casino are also open 24/245. If you want to reach them before visiting, the hotline is +84 297 222 8888 (answered 24/7) and the email is mkt.management@casinocorona.vn8.

For the wider picture of where this fits among the country's other venues, see casinos in Vietnam.

Games on the floor: tables, slots and electronic gaming

The floor is split into three main areas: live dealer tables, slot machines and electronic gaming tables2.

Games on the floor: tables, slots and electronic gaming
Game typeCountWhat it covers
Live tables147Baccarat, Roulette, Blackjack, Poker2
Slot machines484Various themes and bet levels, each with an independently tested RNG8
Electronic gaming tables157Stadium Novo Unity II multigame stations and 32 Fusion Roulette machines12

Baccarat is the biggest presence on the live floor, with over 100 Baccarat tables, plus tables for Roulette, Blackjack, Poker and Sic Bo12. If you are new to the main table game, our baccarat in Vietnam page explains how it works.

The slot section runs to 484 machines with a wide range of themes and bet levels8. The electronic section mixes 125 Stadium Novo Unity II multigame stations with cutting-edge LED screens and 32 Fusion Roulette machines, which let many players bet on the same automated roulette wheel from their own terminals12.

The casino also hosts events. In 2024 it ran the APT Corona Phu Quoc Open Poker Tour, billed as the largest poker tournament in Asia that year, so it is worth checking the schedule if tournament play interests you8. See also poker tournaments in Vietnam.

How the slot machines work

Playing a slot at Corona is the standard three-step routine: place a bet, press the Spin button, and the machine automatically highlights any winning combinations when the reels stop13.

Before you sit down, open the machine's payout table. It usually runs three to four pages: the first two pages show how many symbols you need at each score level, and the third page shows the Scatter and Wild symbols plus instructions for triggering the special features13.

A few practical points:

  • The usual bet amount corresponds to 1 cent per pay line, so low bets spread across multiple payout lines are the common approach13.
  • Payline counts vary hugely from machine to machine, from a single line up to thousands of rows, and choosing more rows gives you more ways to win13.
  • Machines often have win multipliers that activate when you land a qualifying Bonus or Scatter symbol, and the number of bonus symbols needed varies by game13.
  • Once you trigger a bonus feature, you may get options to increase your win points or earn extra spins without additional bets13.

Every machine's RNG (random number generator) is independently tested, and the floor has 24/7 security and surveillance8.

Who can play

Entry rules differ sharply depending on your nationality, so here is the short version.

Foreign visitors have it easy: you must be 18 or older with full civil capacity under Vietnamese law, hold a valid passport with your visa and entry stamp, and have entered Vietnam lawfully. You register at the door with your passport and walk in. No entry ticket, no income proof3.

Vietnamese citizens face a longer checklist. You must be 21 or older with full civil capacity, hold a valid ID document (passport, citizen ID card or national electronic ID card), prove a regular income of VND 10 million per month or more or that you fall in personal income tax bracket 3 or higher, not have a family member (spouse, parent or child) who has requested that you be banned from casinos, and buy an entry ticket4. The casino also checks that you have no criminal record related to gambling1.

Overseas Vietnamese with foreign passports are treated as foreign visitors, entering with a passport and no ticket15.

One thing not to do: try to pass yourself off as a foreigner if you are a Vietnamese citizen. A case in Hanoi in which Vietnamese gamblers disguised themselves as foreigners to play at a foreigners-only club ended in police action, so the ID checks at the door are taken seriously17.

Foreign visitors: passport entry with no ticket required

For foreigners, entry is about as simple as it gets anywhere in Asia. You produce a valid original passport, including your visa and entry or exit stamps, at registration, and that is the whole requirement3. There is no entry fee, no ticket purchase and no income check3.

Foreign visitors: passport entry with no ticket required

The minimum age for foreign visitors is 18, with full civil capacity under Vietnamese law3. New guests register as members at reception on the first visit, which takes a few minutes, and after that you simply show your passport on each entry7.

Support staff speak Vietnamese, English, Chinese and Korean, so language is rarely a barrier at the tables or the cashier7.

Vietnamese citizens: who can enter and what documents to bring

Vietnamese citizens can play, but the document requirements are strict and the casino checks them carefully. From January 1, 2025, the accepted identity documents are a valid passport, a citizen ID card (thẻ căn cước) or the national electronic ID card; old 9-digit ID cards are no longer accepted4.

On top of ID, you need to prove income. The requirement is a regular income of VND 10,000,000 per month or more, or proof that you pay personal income tax at bracket 3 or higher4. The casino accepts several kinds of proof, all as originals or notarized copies that are still valid4:

  • Salary or employer income confirmation covering the last three months before your visit
  • A personal income tax return from the last year
  • A savings account opened at least one year ago (not a newly opened account) that generates monthly interest of VND 10 million or more
  • A rental contract showing total monthly rent of VND 10 million or more, with the contract naming you as the landlord

You also need to show that no close family member (wife, husband, father, mother or child) has filed a request to bar you from casinos4.

The full registration process on a first visit has four steps: present your ID, submit your income proof, fill in the membership registration form, and buy your entry ticket. The casino says the whole thing takes about 15 to 30 minutes depending on how busy it is and the state of your documents4. Come with notarized copies ready and it goes faster.

Entry tickets for Vietnamese players

Vietnamese citizens must buy an entry ticket, which is the main practical difference from foreign guests, who enter free4. There are two options18:

Entry tickets for Vietnamese players
TicketPriceValidity
Day passVND 1,000,00024 continuous hours from the moment of purchase
Monthly passVND 25,000,000One month (valid within the month)

The day pass is per person, so a couple playing together buys two tickets18. The monthly pass only makes sense if you plan to visit many times, since it is valid within the month10.

One thing to watch: the Ministry of Finance has proposed raising these fees to VND 2.5 million per day and VND 50 million per month, roughly 2 to 2.5 times the current level, so check the current price before you travel20. The casino's hotline can confirm.

The pilot program: how the rules for locals changed

Vietnamese citizens were banned from casinos entirely until 2017, when the government launched a three-year pilot scheme allowing locals to play at selected casino projects, with Phu Quoc and Van Don as the first locations21. Corona Casino opened in 2019 under that pilot as the first casino where Vietnamese could legally play6.

The pilot was extended to December 31, 202419. When it expired, the rules required casinos to stop admitting Vietnamese citizens until the government issued new regulations, and Corona suspended entry for Vietnamese nationals from 00:00 on January 1, 2025, while foreign guests continued as normal23.

The gap did not last. Under Resolution 08/2025/NQ-CP, eligible Vietnamese citizens were permitted to enter the Phu Quoc casino project again from November 26, 2025, and Corona became the first venue in Vietnam licensed to welcome Vietnamese customers back under the new framework25. The income, age and ticket requirements described above are the conditions that came with that restoration.

Vietnam now runs three pilot locations for locals: Phu Quoc, Ho Tram and Van Don18. For the broader story, see gambling in Vietnam.

Dress code and house rules

The dress code is smart casual to formal. Recommended: business formal or smart casual attire. Prohibited: sleeveless tops, swimwear and sleepwear, clothing with offensive text, images or patterns, and bare feet. Shoes must be worn on the casino floor27. In practice, long trousers and a collared shirt will get you in without a word; shorts, tank tops and flip-flops will not14.

Beyond dress, the house rules are the usual ones: follow staff instructions and the rules of each game, do not cause disorder, and comply with the casino's internal management rules27. Players must carry the documents that show they are allowed to play, so keep your passport or ID on you28.

Getting there, staying and playing: the resort around the casino

The casino is in the Bai Dai area at the northwest of the island, which means a drive from the main town and the airport9:

Getting there, staying and playing: the resort around the casino
  • From the former central Duong Dong Ward: more than 20 kilometers, about 35 minutes by car9
  • From Phu Quoc International Airport and the port: about 60 minutes of travel9
  • Other sources put the airport drive at about 35 minutes by car, so allow 35 to 60 minutes depending on traffic7

You do not need to stay at the resort to enter the casino; day visitors are welcome as long as they meet the entry conditions12. That said, the complex is set up for overnight stays, with four five-star hotel brands and more than 3,000 rooms and beachfront villas: Radisson Blu, Wyndham Grand, Wyndham Garden Grand World and VinHolidays Fiesta10. There are over 20 restaurants, a kids' play area, spa, pool, theater and gym, plus an 18-hole golf course, Naia Spa & Wellness, and the neighboring Vinpearl Safari and VinWonders theme park10.

That mix makes it one of the few places in Vietnam where a family can split up for the day: one parent at the tables, the other at the safari park or water park with the kids, everyone back together for dinner at one of the resort's restaurants.

Cash, payouts and tax on winnings

Play on the floor runs on chips. You buy chips with Vietnamese dong cash, and when you finish you take all your remaining chips to the Cage cashier counter to exchange them back into VND cash14.

Payouts work on a threshold. Amounts under VND 200 million are usually paid in cash immediately at the Cage. For amounts over VND 200 million, the casino may need a short processing time, usually same day, or offer a bank transfer instead8. For cash-out transactions of VND 50 million and above you will be asked to sign for the transaction under anti-money-laundering rules8.

On tax: winnings from casino play fall under Vietnam's personal income tax rules, and the casino usually withholds the tax at source for large prizes, so big wins arrive with the tax already handled8. For a fuller explanation of how gambling winnings are taxed, see tax on gambling winnings in Vietnam.

A first-visit checklist, pulling it all together:

  • Foreigners: passport with entry stamp, smart casual dress, cash in VND for chips
  • Vietnamese citizens: citizen ID card or passport, income proof as originals or notarized copies, budget for the VND 1,000,000 day ticket, and allow 15 to 30 minutes for first-time registration
  • Everyone: 24/7 opening means no rush, but bring shoes, and leave the swimwear at the beach
