Corona Casino Phu Quoc, on Phu Quoc island in Kien Giang Province, Vietnam, began requiring Vietnamese customers to present identification documents to verify their identity from July 1, 20241. The operator said the change follows the Law on Identification No. 26/2023/QH15, which took effect the same day, and its own Decision No. 0107/2024/QĐ-GĐ-DLPQ dated July 1, 20241.

The operator published two lists of accepted documents. From July 1, 2024 until the end of December 31, 2024, Vietnamese customers may present a passport, an ID card, a citizen ID card valid to the expiry date printed on it, or a valid 9-digit ID card1. From January 1, 2025, the accepted list narrows to passports, ID cards and citizen ID cards valid to the printed expiry date; the 9-digit ID card is dropped1.

The notice applies to Vietnamese nationals. Foreign players must be at least 18, present a valid passport with an entry or exit stamp to register, and are not required to buy an entry ticket3.

From January 1, 2025Passport; ID card; citizen ID card valid to printed expiry1

The casino describes itself as the first and only casino that is legal for Vietnamese to enter1. Its address is given as Bai Dai Area, Ganh Dau Commune, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, Vietnam1; a separate page on the same site lists the address as Bai Dai Area, Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province3. The sources do not explain the difference.

What it means for players

Vietnamese nationals visiting Corona Casino Phu Quoc now need to carry an accepted identity document to get in, and the list of accepted documents changes on January 1, 2025, when the 9-digit ID card stops being accepted1. The requirement sits alongside the existing conditions for Vietnamese entry, including the minimum age of 21, the entry ticket and the income documentation3. Foreign passport holders are unaffected by the identity verification change, but still need a valid passport with an entry or exit stamp to register3. The rules reflect the wider pattern of ID and document checks at casinos in Asia and of KYC verification on gambling sites, where operators collect identity data before allowing play. Background on who can enter casinos in Vietnam and on gambling law across Asia is set out elsewhere.

What happens next

The operator has stated that from January 1, 2025 the accepted documents for Vietnamese customers are passports, ID cards and citizen ID cards valid to the printed expiry date1. No further changes beyond that date have been reported. Questions can be directed to the casino's hotline, +84 297 222 8888, or its email address, mkt.management@casinocorona.vn1.
