You are going up a mountain road, and the casino is one part of a much larger complex with hotels, food, shopping and theme parks. Plan it as a half day or a full day rather than a quick stop.

One practical thing to know before you go: the property has been running a program of upgrades, and that has meant temporarily closing certain sections of the casino to facilitate improvements and facility upgrades⁶. The operator has been clear that gaming operations continue to operate as usual while this happens⁶. So the casino is open, but you may find a particular pit, floor or section shut on the day you visit. Resorts World Manila: the Philippines' biggest casino

Resorts World Manila opened with 100 tables ready, which at the time made it the Philippines' biggest casino⁵. The casino floor was 30,000 square meters, or 323,000 square feet⁵. Those are opening-day figures from 2009, so treat them as the scale the property launched at rather than a current count, but they tell you what kind of place it is: a large, table-game-led floor rather than a slots hall.

For visitors, the Philippines is one of the easier countries in Asia to walk into a casino. Genting Rewards is the membership program attached to Resorts World Genting in Malaysia. It is an individual membership, and the exclusions are explicit: companies, partnerships, trading companies, sole proprietors, societies and any other incorporated or unincorporated bodies are excluded from casino membership¹¹. If you are trying to sign up on behalf of a business, you cannot.

Each member may hold only one Genting Rewards Card membership¹¹. That is a hard limit rather than a guideline, so if you have an old card and want a second one, the answer is no.

If you lose your card or it is stolen, the operator will issue a replacement, but a fine applies. A lost or stolen card is replaced upon payment of a fine set by the operator at the time, payable in cash or by deduction of Genting Points¹¹. So the replacement is not free, and you can pay for it out of your points balance if you prefer.

The card is free for first-time visitors and is required for casino access, so you register for one before you go in¹¹. Membership is for individuals only: companies, partnerships, trading companies, sole proprietors, societies and any other incorporated or unincorporated bodies are not eligible for casino-related membership, and employees of the Genting group are excluded too¹¹. Who may enter: entry rules for residents and visitors

This is the part that matters most, and it is where Asia splits sharply from Europe. In several Asian jurisdictions, the casino is open to you as a foreigner and closed, or expensive, for locals.

Singapore. A casino operator must not allow any person who is a citizen of Singapore or permanent resident of Singapore to enter or remain on casino premises unless that person has paid the entry levy³. If you hold Singapore citizenship or PR, budget for the levy and expect to show your NRIC.

South Korea. Korea's foreigners-only casinos are exactly what the name says. The Hyatt Regency casino in Jeju is for foreigners only¹², Paradise Casino Jeju Grand is a foreigners-only casino facility¹³, and Majesta Jeju Casino is a foreigners-only casino¹⁴. The regulation is blunt: Korean nationals must not be allowed entry to a foreigners-only casino floor¹⁵. Paradise Casino Paradise City states the position for visitors directly, describing itself as a casino for foreign nationals and holders of overseas permanent residency, with Korean nationals barred from entry¹³. If you are a Korean national, these floors are closed to you regardless of where you live.

Japan. Japan's casino law requires the government to take necessary measures, including setting the scope of persons who may enter casino facilities, to prevent harmful effects from casino use by persons other than foreign tourists¹⁶. In plain terms, the framework is built around foreign visitors, and the entry rules for residents are part of that design. Separately, casino operators are required to restrict a visitor's use of the facility on the request of the visitor, or of family members or other related persons¹⁷. That is a self-exclusion mechanism you can ask for.

Macau. Macau's casinos are open to visitors generally, but the operator can refuse. Concessionaires may bar persons they deem unsuitable from entering or staying in casinos, subject to a non-discrimination principle covering gender, race, ethnic origin, color, descent, nationality, residence, language or religion¹⁸. Separately, persons banned from casinos by a final court ruling or administrative decision are banned from entering¹⁸. Staff monitoring entry may require proof of age and may bar entry to those who refuse to show it, but they may not require identity documents¹⁹.

Age. Macau bars persons under 18 from gaming areas, along with the following persons²⁰:

• Incapacitated persons
• Undischarged bankrupts declared habitual gamblers
• Public administration staff
• Off-duty concessionaire employees
• Drunk or drugged persons
• Persons carrying weapons, explosives or recording equipment

Singapore takes the same line on age: a minor must not enter or remain, or take part in any gaming, on any casino premises²¹.

Cruise ships. If your Genting trip involves a cruise, note that only those persons listed on the passenger manifest of that particular voyage can gamble at the vessel's casino²². You cannot bring a guest down from the port.
