How Many Legs Can I Combine in Jingcai Multiples?

The headline number is 99. A Jingcai football multiple runs from 2 to 99 legs, and the basketball game uses the same 2 to 99 range1. So on paper you can string together a very long card of matches and let the odds multiply out.

In practice, two things stop most players well before 99. The first is the ticket value cap of CNY 20,000, which includes multiplier betting1. The second is arithmetic: every leg you add cuts your chance of winning the whole thing, even when each individual pick looks safe.

The minimum is 2 legs. A single selection is a single bet, not a multiple. Once you mark two or more matches as a multiple, the slip is settled as one bet across all of them.

There is also a rule that shapes how you build the card: a multiple cannot contain two selections from the same football match3. Each leg has to come from a different game. If you want to combine markets from one match, that is a different bet type with its own shorter limit, not a Jingcai multiple.

Types of Jingcai multiple bets

Jingcai slips offer single betting and multiple betting, and the multiple side is where the leg count matters1. You choose your matches, mark them as a multiple, and the system prices the whole combination.

Types of Jingcai multiple bets

A few practical points about how the slip works:

  • One match, one leg. You cannot use the same game twice in a multiple3. If you like both the match result and the total goals in one game, you have to pick one for the multiple or place them as separate bets.
  • Different sports do not mix. The football game and the basketball game are separate products with their own rules and their own 2 to 99 range1. You build a multiple inside one of them.
  • Multiplier betting. The ticket value cap of CNY 20,000 applies to the slip including multiplier betting, which is how you scale a small stake up across many combinations1.
  • Combination count. A multiple with several selections can cover more than one combination. Each combination is priced at the minimum, so the total cost of the slip is the number of combinations times CNY 21.

If you are new to how multi-leg bets work in general, the mechanics are the same as any parlay: all legs must win for the bet to pay. Our guide to parlays and accumulators walks through the structure, and how to calculate a betting payout covers the math for singles, parlays and split stakes.

How winnings are calculated

Jingcai football is a pool product, not a fixed-odds book. The prize fund is 73% of sales, and payouts are worked out from that pool rather than from odds locked in when you bet1. That is the single most important thing to understand before you build a long multiple: the price you see is an estimate, and the final return depends on how the pool settles.

The multiplication itself is straightforward. The Hong Kong Jockey Club's correct score parlay example shows the arithmetic with fixed odds: a stake of HKD 100 per bet across three legs priced at 9.50, 15.00 and 6.50 returns HKD 92,625, because 100 x 9.50 x 15.00 x 6.50 = 92,6254. That example is priced in HKD with fixed odds; a Jingcai multiple is priced in CNY from a pool. Every leg multiplies the one before it, which is why long multiples swing so hard.

Two details change the number you actually receive:

  • Rounding. Where dividends are declared per unit, they are set in multiples of one dollar, rounded down to the nearest dollar, with the remainder going to a rounding account5. On a big multiple the rounding is small, but it is real.
  • Pool size. Because the payout comes from 73% of sales, a popular combination pays less per unit than an unpopular one, even at the same leg count1.

A worked example: you mark a 3-leg multiple at CNY 2 per bet, the Jingcai minimum. The slip costs CNY 2. If all three legs land and the pool prices the combination at, say, 50 times, you collect CNY 100. If one leg loses, you collect nothing. Add a fourth leg and the potential return rises, but so does the chance that one match goes the wrong way.

What happens if one leg is void or postponed?

This is the question that decides whether a long multiple is worth building. If a match is postponed and not played within the period set by the center, sales for that match stop and stakes on it are refunded1. The rest of your multiple is settled on the legs that did play.

That is a better outcome than losing the whole bet, but it is not the same as a win. A refunded leg does not pay out; it just comes off the slip. Your multiple is then recalculated on the remaining legs, which usually means a smaller return than you planned.

The practical steps if a match in your multiple is called off:

  1. Check the official notice for that match. Sales stop once the postponement is confirmed1.
  2. Wait for the rescheduled date. If the match is played inside the period the center sets, the original bet stands.
  3. If it is not played in that window, the stake on that match comes back to you1.
  4. Your other legs settle normally, and the multiple pays on whatever is left.

Minimum stake and ticket limits

The minimum is CNY 2 per bet1. That is the price of one combination, not the whole slip. If your multiple covers several combinations, each one costs CNY 2, so a slip with 10 combinations costs CNY 20.

Minimum stake and ticket limits

The maximum ticket value is CNY 20,000, including multiplier betting1. This is the cap that matters most for long multiples. A 10-leg multiple with a modest stake per combination can approach the limit quickly once you start multiplying, so it is worth checking the slip total before you hand it over.

A simple way to think about it:

What you are doingCost or limit
One combinationCNY 2 minimum1
Ten combinationsCNY 20
Whole ticketCNY 20,000 maximum, multiplier betting included1
Legs allowed2 to 991

Where to place a Jingcai multiple bet

Jingcai is sold through China Sports Lottery retail outlets across mainland China. You fill in a betting slip by hand, choosing your matches and marking single or multiple betting, then hand it to the counter. The ticket is printed on the spot.

A few things to bring and expect:

  • Your selections. Write down the match numbers and your pick for each leg before you get to the counter. With a long multiple, it is easy to lose track.
  • Cash or the accepted payment method at that outlet. Outlets vary, so check at the counter.
  • Your slip. Keep the printed ticket. It is the only record of your bet, and you need it to claim.
  • The cut-off time. Sales close before each match kicks off, so a multiple spanning several kick-off times has to be placed before the earliest one.

One plain warning: playing on offshore casino or betting websites is illegal in China, and players have been prosecuted. Stick to the official lottery outlets.

Common Questions

What is the maximum number of legs in a Jingcai multiple?

A Jingcai football multiple can run from 2 to 99 legs. The same 2 to 99 range applies to the basketball game. In practice the cap that bites first is the ticket value limit of CNY 20,000, which a long multiple can reach quickly.

What is the minimum stake for a Jingcai multiple?

The minimum is CNY 2 per bet. That is the price of one combination, not the whole slip. If your multiple covers several combinations, each one costs CNY 2, so a slip with 10 combinations costs CNY 20.

Can I include the same match in more than one leg?

No. A multiple cannot contain two selections from the same football match. Each leg has to come from a different game. If you want to combine markets from one match, that is a separate bet type with its own shorter leg limit.

What happens if one leg is void or postponed?

If a match is postponed and not played within the period set by the center, sales for that match stop and stakes on it are refunded. The rest of your multiple is settled on the remaining legs.

Can I combine Jingcai multiples with single bets?

They are separate bet types on the same slip. You can place single bets and multiple bets on the same card, but a multiple is settled as one bet across all its legs. You cannot mix a single into a multiple as an extra leg.

Where can I place a Jingcai multiple bet?
