What Happens to My HKJC Bet If a Match Is Abandoned?

If HKJC declares a football match void, single bets are refunded in full and any parlay leg on that match counts as a winner at odds of 1.00, so the rest of your bet stays alive.

Single bets: refunds in full

If the match you backed is declared void, your single bet is refunded. HKJC's football betting terms say all football bets on a void match are declared void and the stakes returned, with three exceptions: bets whose outcome was already determined, bets already settled through early settlement, and anything the operator decides otherwise1.

That first exception matters more than it looks. If you backed something that was already decided before the match was called off, such as a first goalscorer who had already scored, or a half-time result that had already been reached, that part of your bet can stand rather than be refunded. The refund rule is the default, not an absolute.

The same wording appears across the individual bet type pages. Correct Score (波膽) singles are refunded when a match is declared void6. Handicap Home Draw Away singles are refunded7. The general football bet type list carries the same line: single bets refunded, parlay legs counted as one successful leg8. So whichever market you played, the single bet treatment is consistent.

There is a second route to a refund that is not about abandonment at all. If HKJC terminates a bet type, a selection or a pool, all valid bets in it are refunded in full, and the operator has no further liability beyond that refund1. That covers cases where a market is pulled rather than a match being called off.

One practical point on timing: winnings or refunds that are not claimed within 60 days of the match date are forfeited5. If you bet at a retail branch and the match is voided, do not leave the refund sitting there indefinitely. If you bet online, the refund normally lands back in your account without you doing anything, but the 60-day limit is worth knowing if you are holding a paper ticket.

Parlay bets: how they are settled when one leg is void

This is the part most people get wrong. A void leg does not kill your parlay. It is treated as a winner at odds of 1.00.

Parlay bets: how they are settled when one leg is void

HKJC's rules state that for parlays, all bets on a void match remain valid and the odds of all possible outcomes of that void match are treated as "1"1. The bet type pages put it more plainly: if a match is declared void, single bets are refunded and parlay bets count as one successful leg8. The English-language guide says the same thing: single bets are refunded, All Up bets involving the match remain valid with the stake running onto the next selections in each bet at odds of 1.002.

What that means in practice:

  • Your parlay stays live. The void leg neither wins you extra nor costs you anything.
  • The odds on your other legs do not change. They stay exactly as you took them.
  • Your return is calculated from the remaining legs only, with the void leg multiplying by 1.

So if you have a three-leg parlay and one match is declared void, your bet settles on the other two legs at the odds you took, with the void leg multiplying by 1. If that void leg had instead lost, the whole parlay would have lost. The void is the better outcome of the two, but it is not a full refund, because the other legs still have to win.

If every leg in your parlay is void, the position is different. A parlay where nothing settles has nothing to pay out on, so you get your stake back.

There is one more wrinkle for jackpot-style bets. In Multi-Match HaFu, if all nominated matches are void, any jackpot allocated is credited back to the jackpot pool and all bets are refunded9. In Double HaFu Score, if one nominated match becomes void, the jackpot goes back to the pool and dividends are paid to bets correctly selecting the half time score and official score of the other match10. If one or both matches are abandoned after the first half is complete, the jackpot is credited back and the half time score is treated as the winning selection for the abandoned match9.

Handicap betting (讓球) and abandoned matches

Handicap bets follow exactly the same void rule as every other football market. If a match is declared void, single handicap bets are refunded, and handicap parlay legs remain valid and are settled as successful at odds of 1.003. The Chinese-language bet type page repeats it word for word11.

What is different about handicap is how the result is decided when the match does go ahead. Handicap payouts are based on the full time result at regulation time, excluding anything from extra time or a penalty shootout3. The same applies to fixed odds handicap bets11. So if you back a handicap and the match goes to extra time, only the 90 minutes plus stoppage count.

Live handicap (即場讓球) adds a layer. The handicap line and the odds move as the match develops, and the payout is based on the full time result adjusted by the handicap line that applied at the time you placed the bet, not the score at that moment3. In-play football bets settle on the half time or full time result in normal playing time, again excluding extra time and penalties13.

Handicap parlays can run up to eight matches3. If one of those eight is voided, that leg becomes 1.00 and the other seven settle normally. Mixed parlays, which combine different bet types, run from two to eight legs and cover markets including Home/Away Draw, First Half Home/Away Draw, Handicap Home/Away Draw, Handicap, First Half Handicap, Total Goals, Team Total Goals, Correct Score, First Team to Score, Odd/Even Goals, First/Last/Next/Anytime Goalscorer, Half/Full Time, Total Corners, Corner Handicap and more3. A void leg in a mixed parlay is handled the same way as in a straight handicap parlay.

Corner markets have their own settlement basis but the same void treatment. Corner Taken Handicap pays on the full time corners taken result adjusted by the corner handicap, home win or away win14. If the match is voided before the result is confirmed, singles are refunded and parlay legs count as one successful leg14.

One thing to watch with in-play corner bets: the home and away options of team total corners over/under, team first half and team extra time corner over/under cannot be combined in the same single or parlay bet. You have to bet the two sides separately13.

What counts as abandoned, and what happens if the match restarts

HKJC defines "Abandoned" as a situation where, after a match has kicked off, it is suspended during play time or extra time for more than one hour with no indication of resumption, or where the official body indicates during the first hour of suspension that it will remain suspended for more than 12 hours12. That is the trigger. A short stoppage for weather, a floodlight failure or a medical emergency is not abandonment unless it crosses those thresholds.

What counts as abandoned, and what happens if the match restarts

If the match is played earlier than scheduled, all football bets HKJC accepted before the match started remain valid5. So a kickoff moved forward does not void your bet.

If the match is postponed rather than abandoned, the treatment can differ. HKJC's own void match rules cover the case where the match is declared void, which is the outcome you will normally see reflected in your account.

Where a match is abandoned after it has gone beyond regulation time, some operators take a different line: no refunds, and the full time score is used to determine the result9. That is not HKJC's approach, but it is worth knowing that "abandoned" does not mean the same thing at every book. At HKJC, the void match rules govern.

There is also a discretionary power worth flagging. HKJC may declare a ticket void if it considers the bettor knew about an event or result, or that a team gained a significant advantage such as a goal, a penalty, an opponent red card or opponent injuries, before the bet was placed or became valid, whether or not the bet won5. That is not about abandoned matches, but it is one of the ways a bet can be voided for reasons other than the match itself.

Where the official rules are published

HKJC publishes its football betting rules as PDFs on hkjc.com, split into numbered chapters.

ChapterWhat it covers
Chapter 2General rules, including void matches, refunds and the 60-day claim limit1
Chapter 1The definitions, including the definition of "Abandoned"12
Chapter 3Tournament bets15
Chapter 4The jackpot bet types such as Multi-Match HaFu and Double HaFu Score9

The individual bet type pages on the HKJC betting site carry the settlement wording for each market. The handicap page, the Home Draw Away page, the Correct Score page, the Corner Taken Handicap page and the Handicap Home Draw Away page each state the void rule in the same form: single bets refunded, parlay legs counted as one successful leg3. The general bet types page carries the same line8.

The English-language betting guide on the HKJC site is the plainest version of the parlay rule: single bets refunded, All Up bets remain valid with the stake running onto the next selections at odds of 1.002. The Chinese-language version says the same17.

A few practical notes on using the rules. The bet type pages carry a disclaimer that the content is for reference only and that the Football Betting Rules are the governing document13. You cannot withdraw a valid football bet once placed5. And physical betting tickets must not be folded5, which matters if you are holding a paper ticket for a match that later gets voided and you need to claim the refund.

Common Questions

Is an abandoned match the same as a void match for HKJC purposes?

Not automatically. HKJC defines an abandoned match as one suspended for more than an hour with no sign of resuming, or one that will stay suspended for more than 12 hours. Once a match is declared void, the refund and parlay rules kick in.

Do I get my money back if a match I bet on is declared void?

Yes, for single bets. All football bets on a void match are declared void and the stakes refunded, unless the outcome was already determined, you already accepted an early settlement, or HKJC decides otherwise.

What happens to a parlay if one match in it is void?

The parlay stays alive. The void leg is treated as a successful selection at odds of 1.00, so it neither adds to nor reduces your return. Your other legs settle normally.

Does a void match affect the odds of my remaining parlay legs?

No. Only the void leg is reset to odds of 1.00. Every other leg keeps the odds you took when you placed the bet, and the payout is worked out from those.

Where can I read the official HKJC football betting rules?

HKJC publishes its football betting rules as PDFs on hkjc.com, split into chapters. Chapter 2 covers general rules including void matches, and the individual bet type pages on the HKJC betting site carry the settlement wording for each market.

Did HKJC recently declare any matches void?

Yes. On September 27, 2026, HKJC declared match FB5818, New York Red Bulls against St. Louis City SC, void. Single bets were refunded and multiple bet legs were treated as one-times successful.

Do the same rules apply to handicap (讓球) bets?

Yes. If a match is declared void, handicap single bets are refunded and handicap parlay legs remain valid and settle as successful at odds of 1.00. Handicap results are based on full time in regulation play, excluding extra time and penalties.
