What Phenom Poker is
Phenom Poker is an online poker room rather than a full casino. There is no sportsbook, no slots and no live dealer floor. The whole product is cash game and tournament poker, played against other players, with the operator taking a cut of each pot or a slice of each tournament buy-in2.
That narrow focus is worth knowing before you sign up, because it shapes everything else. If you want to play blackjack between poker sessions, or put a bet on a football match, you will need a second account somewhere else. If you only want poker, the site is built around that single job.
The room describes its range as running from No Limit Holdem to Badeucey and everything in between, with micro stakes through to high stakes, and says all players are welcome1. In practice that means you can sit down with a small bankroll at the lowest limits, or play much higher if your roll supports it.
Games and stakes
The headline is variety. Phenom Poker does not limit itself to Holdem and Omaha. The operator lists its spread as running from No Limit Holdem to Badeucey, which puts it in the small group of rooms that still deal the mixed and less common games1.
For anyone who has only played Holdem, the practical picture is this. No Limit Holdem is the game you already know: two hole cards, five community cards, and no cap on bet sizing, so a player can move all in at any point3. It is the busiest game at almost every room, and it is the easiest place to start.
Beyond that, the mixed games are where Phenom Poker differs from a mainstream room. Badeucey, for example, is a split-pot game that combines badugi and deuce-to-seven lowball in the same hand. If you have never played it, the learning curve is real, and the players at those tables tend to be experienced. The upside is that the games run at all, which is not true everywhere.
Stakes are described as running from micro to high, so the room is not aimed only at big bankrolls1. You can start small, learn the software and the player pool, and move up when you are ready.
One thing to check before you deposit: the operator charges either a commission, known as rake, calculated under its House Rules, or a percentage of the buy-in fee for tournaments2. The House Rules are where the exact rake structure lives, and they are worth reading if you care about the cost per hand.
Platforms: web client, PWA, Windows and MacOS desktop
Phenom Poker gives you four ways to play, which is more than most rooms of its size1.
- Web based client. Fully responsive, so it works in a browser on a laptop, tablet or phone without installing anything.
- Progressive Web Application (PWA). You install it from the browser and it behaves like an app, with an icon on your home screen.
- Windows desktop client. A downloadable client for Windows machines.
- MacOS desktop client. A downloadable client for Macs.
That last point matters if you are on a Mac. Plenty of poker rooms still treat Mac users as an afterthought, and some offer no download at all. Phenom Poker does ship a MacOS client, so you are not stuck in the browser1.
If you would rather not download anything, the web client and the PWA cover you. The PWA is the closest thing to a mobile app here: there is no separate iOS or Android listing, but the installed web app gives you the same effect on a phone.
For comparison, other rooms in the market handle this differently. Bovada Poker offers a Windows client, a macOS client and a mobile web app4. Black Chip Poker supports MacOS desktop with no download version available5. Natural8 is available on desktop and mobile devices6, and its Vietnamese support pages note you can choose between playing in the browser or downloading the poker or casino app7. WPT Global runs on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android with no browser play8, while Americas Cardroom offers Windows or Mac desktop clients plus iOS and Android apps9. Phenom Poker sits at the flexible end of that range, since it gives you browser, PWA and both desktop clients.
Rakeback: up to 35%
Rakeback is the main reason many players pick a room, and Phenom Poker advertises up to 35%1. That is a strong headline number.
Here is how it works in plain terms. Every time you play a raked hand, the operator takes a small cut of the pot. In tournaments, it takes a percentage of your buy-in as the fee2. Rakeback returns part of that money to you. So the more you play, the more you get back, and the effective cost of playing falls.
Two practical points. First, "up to" means exactly that: the top rate is not automatic for everyone, and the rate you actually get depends on your play and any arrangement you have with the room. Second, rakeback is not a bonus you can withdraw the moment it lands. It accrues as you play and is credited under the operator's scheme.
If you are comparing rooms, the honest way to judge rakeback is to look at the rake you pay first. A room with high rake and 35% back can cost you more than a room with lower rake and a smaller return. Phenom Poker's rake is set out in its House Rules, and that is the document to read before you decide2.
Bots, real-time assistance and fair play
Phenom Poker is explicit on this. Any use of bots is strictly forbidden, and the operator says it uses advanced systems to detect and eliminate non-human activity1.
The terms go further. Automated tools, software aids, bots and artificial intelligence programs used in connection with the service are prohibited2. That covers the obvious cases, like a script playing hands for you, and the less obvious ones, like a program feeding you advice mid-hand.
Real-time assistance software, usually shortened to RTA, is treated separately and more harshly. It is not permitted, and players found using it face a lifetime ban1. A lifetime ban is not a warning or a temporary suspension. It ends your account at this room permanently.
There is a second rule worth knowing if you play in the chat box: English is the only language permitted in the chat application2. That is unusual, and it catches people out. If you are used to chatting in your own language at other rooms, do not do it here.
One more term to be aware of: where the result shown on your software conflicts with the result shown on the operator's server, the server result takes precedence in all circumstances2. In other words, if your client freezes or shows something odd, the house record is what counts.
Who can sign up
Phenom Poker does not accept players who reside in, are located in or are habitually resident in a number of countries, states and jurisdictions, and the list can be amended from time to time2. The operator also states plainly that it does not accept players who reside in a number of countries and jurisdictions, and that your eligibility is shown by the country list during registration2.
The practical takeaway: the country list you see when you sign up is the authoritative one. Check it before you deposit, not after. If your country is not on the list, you cannot open an account, and the list can change.
For players in the Philippines, the position is narrow. Phenom Poker is not on its own restricted list, but online play for residents is only permitted in limited cases, and the country's regulator has warned the public against playing on illegal online gambling sites10. If you are in the Philippines and thinking about signing up, read our guide to online casinos in the Philippines and the POGO ban before you deposit.
Two other eligibility rules are worth flagging. The operator does not extend credit to any player for wagering or playing or any related activities, so you play with funds you have deposited2. And an account that is not logged into for any consecutive twelve months becomes dormant, and cannot be logged into again until support removes the restriction2.
License and what our check found
Phenom Poker claims an Anjouan license. Anjouan is part of the Comoros, and the licensing body it uses is not recognized by the Comoros authorities. That is the central fact to understand about this room.
What it means in practice is that there is no regulator with real power standing behind your account. A recognized license gives you a complaints route, an independent body that can order a site to pay you, and rules on how player funds are held. With an unrecognized licensing body, those protections are largely absent. If you have a dispute over a withdrawal, your options are limited to the operator's own support and, in theory, the courts of a jurisdiction you have no connection to.
That does not mean the site does not pay. It means that if it does not pay, you have very little to fall back on. Treat the money in your account as money at risk, and do not leave a balance sitting there that you would miss.
For contrast, regulated markets do this differently. In Singapore, the Gambling Regulatory Authority sets out harm minimization requirements that licensed operators must meet11. In Canada, the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission licenses and regulates poker rooms and publishes the games they may offer12. Those are the kinds of structures that give a player somewhere to go.
Payments and account rules
Phenom Poker does not publish a full payment schedule on its main pages, so the practical advice is to check the cashier inside your account before you deposit. What the terms do tell you is useful.
- No credit. The operator does not extend credit to any player for wagering or playing or any related activities2. You play with deposited funds only.
- Tokens. Phenom Token (PHNM) is not transferable, other than to be redeemed back to Phenom Poker at the current price listed in the app or on the official website2. So you cannot send tokens to another player or move them to an exchange.
- Dormant accounts. Twelve consecutive months without a login makes the account dormant, and support has to lift the restriction before you can use it again2.
- Server precedence. Where your software and the operator's server disagree, the server result wins2.
If you are in the Philippines and want the wider picture on moving money in and out of gambling sites, our guide to paying and cashing out at Philippine gambling sites covers the methods that actually work there.
Self-exclusion and taking a break
Phenom Poker offers self-exclusion periods of 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 365 days or permanent3. You can request it at any time by emailing help@phenompoker.com3.
The rules around it are strict. Once you self-exclude, you cannot log in or access any part of Phenom Poker for the duration of the period3. Self-exclusion cannot be reversed under any circumstances3. And you may not open or use a new account with any other website operated by the company during the period2.
The scope is wider than the single site. Responsible gaming exclusions apply to all company owned, managed or operated properties or gambling sites, and new accounts opened during an exclusion are closed, with funds not refunded2. So self-excluding here is not a way to take a break from one room while playing at a sister site.
If you want a block that works across the whole market rather than one operator, third-party tools do that job. BetBlocker and GamBan are effective programs that block online gambling websites and apps13. GamBan blocks access to thousands of gambling websites and apps worldwide, on a monthly or yearly paid subscription after a trial14. Bet Blocker and GamBan are the two names most commonly recommended for site blocking and time limits15.
In the Philippines, PAGCOR runs a Family Exclusion or Banning program for loved ones such as a spouse, child or parent who needs help with problem gambling16. It also provides patrons who feel that they or their relatives are developing a problem with gambling the option of barring themselves or their relatives from all gaming venues or sites10.
One last thing worth saying plainly: poker results are random in the short run, and no strategy changes that15. If you are playing to win back losses, that is the moment to stop.
Common Questions
What games can I play on Phenom Poker?
Phenom Poker spreads poker only, from No Limit Holdem to Badeucey and everything in between. Stakes run from micro limits up to high stakes, so the room is open to small bankrolls and bigger players alike. There are no casino table games or slots on the site.
Does Phenom Poker have a mobile app?
There is no separate iOS or Android app. Instead you play through a fully responsive web client on any device, or install the Progressive Web Application (PWA), which behaves like an app on your phone. Windows and MacOS desktop clients are also available.
What is the maximum rakeback on Phenom Poker?
Rakeback runs up to 35%. Phenom Poker charges either a rake calculated under its House Rules or a percentage of the buy-in fee for tournaments, and returns part of that to players through its rakeback scheme. The exact rate depends on your play and any deal you hold.
Are bots allowed on Phenom Poker?
No. Any use of bots is strictly forbidden, and Phenom Poker says it uses advanced systems to detect and eliminate non-human activity. Automated tools, software aids and artificial intelligence programs used with the service are prohibited under its terms.
What happens if I use real-time assistance software?
Real-time assistance (RTA) software is not permitted. Players found using it face a lifetime ban from Phenom Poker. The ban is applied to the account, and the operator treats RTA as a serious integrity breach rather than a warning-level offense.
Is there a desktop client for Mac?
Yes. Phenom Poker offers a MacOS desktop client alongside its Windows client, so Mac users do not have to rely on the browser. You can also play in the web client or install the PWA if you prefer not to download anything.
