Six J-PLACE off-course betting venues in Japan began selling all races from Saturday 23 August 2025, the Japan Racing Association (JRA) announced on 20 July 20251. The venues previously sold only part of each race card1.
The change affects J-PLACE Sapporo Station, J-PLACE Sapporo Station Front, J-PLACE Hakodate Station Front, J-PLACE Sendai, J-PLACE Nagoya and J-PLACE Fukuoka1. The JRA listed the before and after position for each1:
| Venue | Before |
|---|---|
| J-PLACE Sapporo Station | Last 4 races of each day |
| J-PLACE Sapporo Station Front | Last 4 races of each day |
| J-PLACE Hakodate Station Front | Last 4 races of each day |
| J-PLACE Sendai | Last 4 races of each day |
| J-PLACE Nagoya | Main races of each day |
| J-PLACE Fukuoka | Main races of each day |
After: All races of each day
The JRA said the change would take effect from that date:
"8月23日(土)から全レース発売を開始いたします。"
The JRA's notice describes the affected outlets as J-PLACE venues that had until then sold only some races1. The announcement did not state a reason for the expansion, and no figure for expected turnover or ticket volumes at the six venues was given1.
What it means for players
For anyone betting on Japanese racing through J-PLACE rather than at a racecourse or a WINS outlet, the six venues listed now offer the full card instead of a partial one. At Sapporo Station, Sapporo Station Front, Hakodate Station Front and Sendai, that means the earlier races on a card, not just the last four, are on sale. At Nagoya and Fukuoka, it means races outside the main races of the day are on sale. The JRA notice covers only these six outlets; it does not say anything about other J-PLACE locations, so whether they change has not been reported1. Betting in Japan remains subject to the same rules as before, and the notice sets out no change to bet types, pools or how horse racing wagers are placed1.
What happens next
The expansion took effect on 23 August 20251. The JRA notice gives no further dates, no review point and no indication of whether the same change will be extended to other J-PLACE venues1.
