The Japan Racing Association (JRA) has published a revised payout rate table for each of its betting methods, effective on and after June 7, 20261. The rates apply to races run under the new rules from that date2.
The table below lists the payout rate the JRA gives for each bet type2.
| Bet type | Payout rate |
|---|---|
| Win (tansho) | 80.00% |
| Place (fukusho) | 80.00% |
| Pair (wakuren) | 77.50% |
| Wide (wide) | 77.50% |
| Quinella (umaren) | 77.50% |
| Trio (sanrenpuku) | 75.00% |
| Trifecta (sanrentan) | 72.50% |
| WIN5 | 70.00% |
The JRA states that the payout rate shown is an estimate that assumes one winning combination per race, and that the actual payout can differ depending on the number of winning tickets and the outcome of the race1. The JRA gives the formula for the payout amount as (W+D/P)×R, with an added term +A/P for WIN51. In that formula, W is the total amount bet on the winning combination, D is the total amount bet on combinations other than the winning one, P is the number of winning tickets, R is the payout rate set for each bet type, and A is the carryover amount for WIN52.
The JRA states that payouts may be subject to tax under the tax law in some cases, and directs customers to the National Tax Agency for details1. It also states that payouts for tickets already settled are not affected by later changes to the race card, such as a change of track condition or a change of starter1.
What it means for players
The change sets the share of each betting pool returned to winning tickets for races run from June 7, 2026. For a 100 yen bet, the JRA states that a bet type with a 70% payout rate returns 70 yen and one with an 80% payout rate returns 80 yen1. The rates differ by bet type, so the amount returned relative to the pool varies depending on which bet is placed2. The JRA notes that the published rate is an estimate assuming one winning combination per race, and that the actual payout can differ1. Payouts may be subject to tax in some cases1. The JRA states that betting is not permitted for persons under 201.
What happens next
The new rates apply to races run on and after June 7, 20262. The JRA has not reported any further changes to the payout rates beyond that date.
