DUNK Basketball Lottery

DUNK Basketball Lottery

DUNK is Japan's basketball lottery where a computer picks the results for you, with a top prize of JPY 100,000,000, or JPY 300,000,000 with a carryover. Here is how it works, what it costs, where to buy it and how to collect.

DUNK: Japan's first basketball lottery

DUNK is a new sports lottery from the Japan Sports Promotion Center, launched on September 15, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. It is the first sports lottery in Japan to target basketball, and it belongs to the "no prediction needed" family of games, like BIG and MEGA BIG, where a computer randomly selects the results instead of you1.

That is the whole appeal. You do not need to know anything about the B.LEAGUE, basketball scoring, or form guides. You buy a ticket, the computer assigns your numbers, and you wait for the designated matches to finish. The operator describes it plainly: no prediction and no knowledge required, a new sports lottery based on basketball5.

DUNK sits alongside three other games in the sports lottery lineup: BIG (football, computer picks), toto (football, you predict), and WINNER (single-match and competition prediction for football and basketball)6. If you want a game where your own judgment matters, see toto or WINNER. DUNK is the one for people who just want a cheap ticket and a big top prize.

Game format: how the computer picks your results

Each round of DUNK designates a set of basketball matches. For each designated match, the computer randomly selects one of four options, based on the result at the end of the match including any overtime, together with the two teams' combined total score2:

Game format: how the computer picks your results
  • 1: home team wins and the combined total is 160 points or more
  • 2: home team wins and the combined total is under 160 points
  • 3: away team wins and the combined total is 160 points or more
  • 4: away team wins and the combined total is under 160 points

So each match has four possible outcomes, and your ticket shows one number per match. When the matches finish, the actual results are compared with your numbers. The more matches you get right, the bigger your prize class2.

You never make a prediction yourself. The computer does it all, which is why the game is sold as a "no prediction needed" lottery7. The 160-point line is the fixed scoring threshold used to split high-scoring from low-scoring games.

One practical detail: a round is valid as long as at least 6 of the designated matches are actually held. Up to 4 matches can be canceled and the round still stands2.

DUNK 10, DUNK 6-A and DUNK 6-B: the variants and what they pay

DUNK comes in three versions, sold at two price points8:

VersionMatchesPrice per betFirst prizeOdds of first prize
DUNK 1010JPY 300Up to JPY 100,000,000 (JPY 300,000,000 with carryover)1 in 1,048,576
DUNK 6-A6JPY 100About JPY 100,0001 in 4,096
DUNK 6-B6JPY 100About JPY 100,0001 in 4,096

DUNK 10 is the headline game. Each bet covers 10 designated matches, and first prize requires all 10 numbers to match. Second prize allows 1 miss, third prize 2 misses, fourth prize 3 misses, and fifth prize 4 misses2. The prize pool is 50% of sales, split among the classes: 1st 75%, 2nd 10%, 3rd 4%, 4th 4%, and 5th 7%2. Theoretical odds for the lower classes are about 1 in 34,953 for second, 1 in 2,589 for third, 1 in 324 for fourth, and 1 in 62 for fifth2.

DUNK 6-A and DUNK 6-B are the JPY 100 versions, each covering 6 designated matches. First prize requires all 6 numbers to match, second prize allows 1 miss, and third prize allows 2 misses2. The prize pool is also 50% of sales, split 1st 50%, 2nd 17%, 3rd 33%2. The two versions simply run on different sets of 6 matches, so a weekend can have both on sale at once.

Note that DUNK 10 is not sold as a complete set of all 1,048,576 combinations, unlike some lottery products. Each bet is a single random draw of numbers2.

Prizes: JPY 100,000,000 top prize, JPY 300,000,000 with a carryover

The advertised top prize for DUNK 10 is up to JPY 100,000,000 in a normal round, and up to JPY 300,000,000 when a carryover is in place2. The exact figure is technically up to JPY 100,000,020 in a normal round, but the operator rounds it to JPY 100,000,000 in advertising for clarity2.

Prize amounts are theoretical values and vary with sales and the number of winning bets in each class2. The operator gives a worked example: if the total first-prize pool for a round is JPY 900,000,000, up to 3 winners could each take JPY 300,000,0003.

For DUNK 6, first prize is about JPY 100,000 per winner, again varying with sales and the number of winners2.

Carryover rule: what happens when no one wins first prize

If no ticket wins first prize in a round, or if first-prize winners exist but part of the first-prize dividend is left over, that first-prize money is carried over to the next round3. This is what pushes the top prize from JPY 100,000,000 up toward JPY 300,000,0002.

Carryovers are common in games with long odds like DUNK 10, where first prize is 1 in 1,048,576, so rounds with no first-prize winner feed the next round's pool. When you see DUNK advertised at JPY 300,000,000, that means a carryover is active for that round.

Where to buy DUNK

DUNK is sold through three channels3:

Where to buy DUNK
  • The internet: the sports lottery official site and partner sites
  • Lottery counters: sports lottery sales outlets, including some lottery shops, marked with the sports lottery logo
  • Convenience stores: stores handling the sports lottery, using the in-store terminal

A few lottery counters do not carry DUNK, so if you are heading to a specific shop, look for the sports lottery logo or check the store search on the official site3. Note also that DUNK cannot be reserved through the website for pickup; store purchases are made directly at the counter9.

Closing times differ by purchase method, so the sections below give the details for each channel.

Buying online: Club toto membership, payment methods and cutoff times

To buy DUNK on the official sports lottery site, whether paying online or by convenience store payment, you need to join Club toto, the free membership service7. Members can buy tickets 24 hours a day on the site, except during system maintenance10.

On the official site, payment methods are credit card, debit card (JCB Debit), a Rakuten Bank account, or convenience store payment11. Partner sites have their own setups: the Rakuten toto site takes Rakuten Card, JCB card and a Rakuten Bank account; the Docomo Sports lottery site takes d Card, JCB card and carrier billing added to your phone bill; the au Jibun Bank toto site pays from and pays winnings into an au Jibun Bank account11.

Whichever site you use, winnings are transferred back to the account tied to your payment method, and that transfer account cannot be changed afterward11. So pick your payment method with that in mind.

Cutoff times online are generous. With net payment on the official site and partner sites, sales close 10 minutes before the first designated match starts7. With convenience store payment through the official site, sales close 120 minutes before the first designated match starts, because you need time to get to the store and pay7.

Convenience store payment works like this: you accept the payment on the site first, which issues a QR code or barcode, then you pay at the store register. No ticket is printed at the store; your purchase lives in your member page on the site7. The process differs slightly by chain, covered in the convenience store section below.

Buying at a lottery counter

At a lottery counter, buying DUNK is as simple as it gets: tell the staff how many bets you want, receive your ticket, and pay. A purchase application slip can also be used if you prefer to fill one in9.

Lottery counters are generally open for sports lottery sales from 8:00 to 23:00, though hours vary by store12. Sales at counters close at noon (12:00) on the final day of the round8.

Buying at convenience stores: terminals, hours and the 11:30 a.m. cutoff

At convenience stores, DUNK is bought through the in-store terminal rather than at the register13:

  • Lawson: use the Loppi terminal installed in each store
  • FamilyMart: use the multi-copy machine installed in each store

Terminal hours are 8:00 to 22:30, and sales close at 11:30 a.m. on the final day of sales13.

If you accepted a convenience store payment online, the store process differs by chain. At Lawson and Ministop, scan the dedicated code at the Loppi barcode reader, enter the confirmation number, then take the printed application slip to the register and pay within 30 minutes. At FamilyMart, present the M-Copy service application barcode at the register. At 7-Eleven, present the internet ticket issuance service payment slip at the register, or tell the staff the payment slip number7.

When rounds close: the first sale as an example

The first DUNK sale in September 2026 shows how a typical round is scheduled4:

The pattern to notice: convenience stores close earliest, counters at noon, then online sales stay open until shortly before the matches begin. Sales periods and cutoff times can change, so check the information for each round before you buy8.

The DUNK Bonus draw

Alongside the main game, DUNK purchasers can enter the DUNK Bonus draw for a chance to win B.LEAGUE game tickets and other prizes, plus a B.LEAGUE digital card benefit3.

The campaign works on purchase amount: buy at least JPY 1,000 of DUNK during the campaign period and you are eligible, with one entry per JPY 1,000 spent, and you choose your preferred club when you apply. Prizes are Resona Group B.LEAGUE 2026-27 season viewing ticket coupons worth JPY 10,0004.

To apply, go to the DUNK Bonus special site and enter the lottery type, draw round and reference number from the purchase history and winning check screen. Some purchase amounts may not be eligible, so check the campaign terms7.

Checking results: four ways

There are four ways to check whether your DUNK ticket won3:

  1. Club toto member menu: log in from the "ログイン" button at the top right of the official site, click "購入履歴・当せん確認" at the top of the page, then select "詳細確認". You can filter by product, purchase period and result. Store buyers who are Club toto members can also check this way14.
  2. The result confirmation page: on the official site, select the lottery type, select the draw round, enter the reference number printed on your ticket, and click "結果を表示"15.
  3. Newspapers: results are published in the morning edition the day after the results announcement, mainly in the sports and basketball columns, though some newspapers are excluded and notation differs by paper. Two things to check: the draw round and the match result numbers15.
  4. Lottery counters: staff at lottery sales offices can check your ticket. Note that in-store checking is only available at lottery counters, not at convenience stores3.

If you bought on a partner site rather than the official site, check your results on the site where you bought14.

Collecting winnings

How you collect depends on where you bought3:

  • Bought online (net payment or convenience store payment): winnings are automatically transferred to your registered account, in principle 3 business days after the payout start date. Business days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays11.
  • Bought at a store with cash: winnings are not automatically transferred. Collect them at a credit union that handles the sports lottery or at a lottery counter that allows payouts16.

Winnings of JPY 100,000 or less can be received in cash on the spot at a credit union handling the sports lottery or at a payout-capable lottery counter17. For winnings over JPY 500,000, complete the procedure at a credit union handling the sports lottery, then either collect directly at the counter after 12 business days or choose a transfer to a designated account. At agent stores, after the prescribed procedure, winnings are transferred to your designated account after about ten to several days17.

One important restriction: DUNK payouts are not currently available at convenience stores, even at the same store where you bought the ticket18. When collecting in person, bring the winning ticket and an identity document such as a driver's license or My Number card16. Payouts at counters, credit unions and agent stores are accepted until the store's business hours on the payout deadline date16.

Who can play

DUNK is open to anyone in Japan aged 19 or older. Purchase or receipt of tickets by persons under 19 is prohibited by law, and prizes cannot be collected by underage holders1. The same minimum age applies across the sports lottery games19. There is no separate rule for visitors or foreign residents; anyone of age can buy at a counter with cash. Buying online requires a Club toto membership and a Japanese payment method, which in practice makes it easier for residents.
