What Da Ma Cai is and who licenses it
Da Ma Cai is a Malaysian numbers lottery operator, best known for its 4D-style games where you pick digits and match them against numbers drawn from mechanical drums. It runs under the oversight of Malaysia's Ministry of Finance, which approves its draw schedule and can grant permission for extra draws from time to time1.
The company operates through a network of betting outlets across the country, plus a telephone betting service and the dmcGO app for players who prefer not to visit a shop1. Draws are held at several locations: the Selangor Turf Club in Selangor, the Penang Turf Club in Pulau Pinang, the Perak Turf Club in Perak, Off Course Centres, and Wisma Genting in Kuala Lumpur1.
If you are new to Malaysian numbers games generally, the lottery in Malaysia page explains how the different operators fit together, and how to play 4D in Malaysia walks through the basic bet types.
Games and bet types on offer
Da Ma Cai's core product is the 1+3D game, where you pick a four-digit number and match it against the drawn results. The full menu of bet types includes 1+3D, Super 1+3D, 3D, 1+3D Jackpot, 1+3D Jackpot System Bet, 3D Jackpot, 3D Jackpot System Bet, 3+3D Bonus, BOX, BOXALL, System Bet (SB), System Pair (SP) and IBOX1.

In practice, most players choose between a straight bet (your digits must come out in the exact order) and a box or boxall bet (your digits can come out in any order). System bets let you cover more combinations at a higher cost, and jackpot games roll a share of the pool into a larger prize.
You can place bets at any Da Ma Cai outlet, through the telephone betting service, or on dmcGO1. If you want to compare the app route with buying in person, buying 4D tickets online and by app covers the practical differences.
Draw schedule and where draws take place
Standard Da Ma Cai draws are conducted every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 pm1. On top of that, the Ministry of Finance may approve Special Draws from time to time, and these are usually held on Tuesday at 7:00 pm1.
Draws take place at the Selangor Turf Club in Selangor, the Penang Turf Club in Pulau Pinang, the Perak Turf Club in Perak, at Off Course Centres, and at Wisma Genting in Kuala Lumpur1.
Outlet opening hours follow the draw calendar. On draw days (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday) and on special draw days (Tuesday), outlets open at 8:00 am. On non-draw days (Monday) and the eve of special draw days, they open at 9:00 am2.
| Day | What happens | Outlet opens |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | No draw | 9:00 am (including the eve of a special draw day) |
| Tuesday | Special Draw (when approved), 7:00 pm | 8:00 am |
| Wednesday | Standard draw, 7:00 pm | 8:00 am |
| Saturday | Standard draw, 7:00 pm | 8:00 am |
| Sunday | Standard draw, 7:00 pm | 8:00 am |
How the winning numbers are drawn
Da Ma Cai draws use eight transparent electromechanical drums: one Horse Drum, six Numbers Drums and one Bonus Drum1.
The main prizes come from a horse race element. The six-digit number drawn and carried by the winning horse in the designated race becomes the 1st Prize. The six-digit number carried by the horse in second place becomes the 2nd Prize, and the one carried by the horse in third place becomes the 3rd Prize1.
Separately, 10 six-digit numbers are drawn from the six Numbers Drums to make up the 10 consolation winning numbers1. In total, a 1+3D draw produces 23 winning numbers: the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prizes, 10 Starter Prizes and 10 Consolation Prizes1.
Prize claims: validation, ticket condition and ID checks
To claim a Da Ma Cai prize, bring the original winning ticket and your identity card or passport2. Prizes can be claimed from the next business day after the draw2.

Where you claim depends on the amount:
- Prizes up to RM50,000 can be claimed at betting outlets2.
- Prizes up to RM1,000,000, and fixed-payout prizes except bonus prizes up to RM1,000,000, can be claimed at any Da Ma Cai regional office in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Melaka or Johor2.
- Prizes exceeding RM1,000,000, and a Bonus Prize exceeding RM1,000,000, must be claimed at the Head Office, Wisma Genting, KL1.
Your ticket has to be in good condition. A winning ticket must not be altered, defaced, torn, mutilated or tampered with in any manner whatsoever1. Treat it the way you would treat any bearer document: keep it flat, dry and away from heat and direct light until the money is in your hand. Damaged tickets are commonly treated as void by lottery and betting operators, so a torn ticket is a real risk to your claim3.

Prize claim period: 3 months from the draw
All winning Da Ma Cai tickets are valid for claim within a period of 3 months from the date of the draw1. The same three-month window is stated for prizes up to RM50,000 claimed at betting outlets2.
Three months is shorter than the claim windows used by several other lotteries in the region, so it is worth diarizing the date rather than assuming you have a year. If you are holding a ticket you have not checked, check it now rather than at the end of the quarter.
Who is allowed to play: age and other restrictions
Da Ma Cai states that any person who is at least 21 years of age and non-Muslim can buy Da Ma Cai games2. The same rule is repeated for the numbers games: non-Muslims aged 21 and above may bet on Da Ma Cai 4D games such as 1+3D, 1+3D Single A, 3D and 3+3D4.

Two things follow from that. First, the minimum age is 21, not 18, so a younger player cannot buy a ticket even though they might be allowed into other gambling venues in the region. Second, the non-Muslim requirement applies to everyone, whether you are a Malaysian citizen, a foreign resident or a visitor. It is not waived for tourists.
The dmcGO account has its own minimum age of 214, which lines up with the ticket-buying rule.

Responsible play guidance
Lottery play is cheap per ticket, which is exactly why it is easy to spend more than you meant to over a month. Set a number before you go in, and treat the ticket as entertainment spending rather than an investment.
If your play stops feeling casual, support exists. In Macau, for example, Responsible Gambling Information Kiosks are set up in the gaming areas of all operating casinos and in community locations such as Social Welfare Bureau offices and counseling centers, offering self-exclusion applications, problem gambling family counseling, a gambling disorder assessment with a printable behavior report, and a 24-hour helpline5. Seven of the kiosks have an ambassador on site to explain the services and help with applications5. The community version of the kiosk is available at Social Welfare Bureau offices and counseling centers across Macau6.
Malaysia has its own counseling and support services, and any Da Ma Cai outlet can point you toward them.
Common Questions

Can Muslims play Da Ma Cai or claim prizes?

What days and time are Da Ma Cai draws held?
Standard draws run every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 pm. Special Draws approved by the Ministry of Finance are usually held on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm. Outlets open at 8:00 am on draw days and special draw days, and 9:00 am on non-draw days and the eve of a special draw.
What are Special Draws and when do they happen?

How long do I have to claim a Da Ma Cai prize?
You have three months from the date of the draw to claim any winning ticket. Prizes up to RM50,000 can be claimed at betting outlets, larger amounts at regional offices, and anything above RM1,000,000 at the head office in Wisma Genting, Kuala Lumpur.
What happens if my ticket is torn or damaged?
A winning ticket must not be altered, defaced, torn, mutilated or tampered with in any way. If it is, the ticket may be rejected when you try to claim. Keep your tickets flat, dry and away from heat and direct light until you have collected any prize.
