Casinos on Jeju: what there is and where

Jeju is the most casino-dense corner of South Korea. Eight licensed foreigners-only casinos operate on the island, and between them they run more than 100 gaming tables and over 200 slot machines¹. That is a lot of gaming floor for an island better known for waterfalls, volcanic rock and honeymooners, and it exists because Jeju's tourism economy has long catered to Japanese, Chinese and other Asian visitors who expect a casino in their hotel.

The venues cluster in three areas:

• Jeju City and the airport area. Paradise Casino Jeju Grand sits in the MAISON GLAD hotel downtown, the Jeju KAL Hotel Casino is on Jungang-ro, and the Oriental Hotel Casino is right next to the international airport at Tapdong beach³. The Jeju Dream Tower, the island's largest casino, is also about 8 minutes from the airport².
• The Jungmun resort strip on the south coast. The Hyatt Regency and Jeju Shilla Hotel both run casinos inside their hotels, 40 minutes by car from Jeju City and the airport, and 20 minutes from Seogwipo⁶.
• The west side. The Landing Casino operates inside the Landing Hotel at Jeju Shinhwa World, the big integrated resort near Hallasan⁷.

The style across the island is fairly uniform: baccarat-centered operations with Chinese-language service, in casinos that are mostly small by international standards¹. Do not expect Las Vegas-scale showrooms. What you get instead are compact, well-run floors attached to hotels, with baccarat taking the lion's share of the tables and a handful of blackjack, roulette and dice games around the edges. Foreigners-only rule: who may enter

Every casino on Jeju is foreigners-only. You show your passport at the door, and Korean citizens are not admitted¹. This is not a house rule but the law: under the Tourism Promotion Act, casino operators in South Korea must not allow Korean nationals to enter, with the narrow exception of overseas emigrants under the Overseas Emigration Act⁸. The single casino in the country where Korean citizens may gamble is Kangwon Land in Gangwon Province, far from Jeju⁸.

In practice, this means:

• Bring your passport. It is checked at entry for age and nationality, and no venue will let you in without it¹.
• If you are a foreign visitor or a foreign resident of Korea, you are welcome at all of them. Paradise Casino states plainly that it is open to customers of foreign nationality only, which covers tourists and foreign residents alike³.
• If you are a Korean citizen traveling with foreign friends, you will need to wait outside. Travel agency staff and other approved visitors can enter with a badge but may not play⁸.

The rule is enforced calmly and routinely. Staff check passports at a reception desk, sometimes with a metal detector, and the whole process takes a minute or two¹. There is no drama attached to it; it is simply how every licensed casino in the country outside Kangwon Land operates.

Paradise Casino Jeju Grand: tables, slots and location

Paradise Casino Jeju Grand is the flagship of the island's downtown options, run by Paradise, the same company behind Paradise Casino Walkerhill in Seoul and Paradise City in Incheon⁹. It sits on the first floor of the MAISON GLAD Jeju hotel at 80 Noyeon-ro, Jeju City, about a 10-minute drive from Jeju International Airport and in the heart of the city³.

The floor is small but complete, with 100 gaming positions in total³:

It is open 24 hours¹⁰. The contact number is +82-64-740-7773, and the operator also runs a separate admission inquiry line for the Jeju casino at 064-740-7776³.

A few practical touches make a first visit easy. There is a money exchange and ATM on the premises, so you can convert cash at the door rather than hunting for a bank first³. The floor staff provide phone-charging service, cardigan and blanket rental, and take guest feedback on the spot³. Parking is available at the hotel¹⁰. The venue also hosts poker, including Texas Hold'em, which is open to foreign passport holders under the same entry rules as the rest of the casino¹¹.

Casinos in Jeju City: Oriental and the airport-area venues

Two other long-running casinos sit in and around Jeju City, both inside hotels and both easy to reach from the airport.

Jeju KAL Hotel Casino is at 151 Jungang-ro, Jeju City, in the island's capital⁴. It covers 550 pyeong, which makes it a genuinely large floor by hotel-casino standards, and it has been billed as the largest casino on Jeju Island⁴. It offers blackjack, roulette, baccarat, Big Wheel and Tai-Sai among its table games, opens 24 hours all year round, has parking, and takes inquiries at +82-64-720-9999⁴.

Jeju Oriental Hotel Casino is the most convenient of all if you are flying in: it is on the first floor of the Oriental Hotel, next to Jeju International Airport at Tapdong beach, at 47 Tapdong-ro⁵. Games are blackjack, roulette, Tai-Sai (listed there as Daisai) and baccarat, and it is open 24 hours⁵. The contact number is +82-64-754-8867⁵.

Both are foreigners-only, like everything else on the island⁴. The Oriental in particular suits a long layover or a last night before an early flight, since you can walk there from the airport end of Tapdong.

Jungmun resort casinos: Hyatt Regency and Jeju Shilla

The Jungmun Tourist Complex on the south coast, home to beaches, museums and resort hotels, has two casino options within a short drive of each other.

The Hyatt Regency casino is inside the Hyatt Regency Jeju at 114 Jungmungwangwang-ro 72beon-gil, Seogwipo, with views over Jungmun Beach and Hallasan⁶. Its hours are unusual for Jeju, so plan around them: Monday to Thursday it opens at 14:00 and runs to 06:00 the next morning, while Friday through Sunday it is open 24 hours⁶. Games are roulette, blackjack, baccarat and slot machines, and the helpline is +82-64-735-8753⁶. Like every casino on the island, it is for foreigners only⁶.

The Jeju Shilla Hotel Casino is at 75 Jungmun Gwangwang-ro 72beon-gil, Seogwipo, inside the Shilla hotel¹². The floor covers 260 pyeong and is done in a traditional Western European style¹². Games include roulette, blackjack, baccarat and slot machines, and it is open 24 hours, all year round¹². The contact number is +82-64-730-1100¹². The same hotel also houses the Majesta Jeju Casino, another foreigners-only venue offering roulette, blackjack, baccarat and slot machines¹³.

Both hotels are 40 minutes by car from Jeju City and the airport, and 20 minutes from Seogwipo⁶, so a visit pairs naturally with a day on the Jungmun strip rather than a trip from downtown.

Jeju Shinhwa World and the Landing Casino

On the west side of the island sits Jeju Shinhwa World, a large integrated resort with theme parks, hotels, shopping and a casino. The Landing Casino operates inside the Landing Hotel at Jeju Shinhwa Resort⁷, making it the island's closest thing to the integrated-resort model you might know from Macau or Singapore.

The resort location is the draw here: you can stay in the hotel, eat in the resort's restaurants, and walk to the casino floor without leaving the complex. The casino follows the same foreigners-only rule as every other venue on Jeju, so bring your passport¹.

Games you will find: baccarat first

Baccarat is the center of gravity at every Jeju casino, and the island's floors are built around it¹. At Paradise Casino Jeju Grand, 25 of the 36 live tables are baccarat³. The game's speed, its low house-edge bets on Player and Banker, and its familiarity to Chinese-speaking guests make it the default game across the island, and tables will usually have Chinese-speaking staff¹.

Around the baccarat, the standard lineup looks like this:

• Blackjack, at Paradise Jeju Grand (4 tables), the KAL, the Oriental, the Shilla, the Hyatt Regency and the Landing Casino³.
• Roulette, at the same venues, though Paradise Jeju Grand has just a single table³.
