The hotel that houses Jeju WanLi Casino, the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Jeju Ocean Front on South Korea's Jeju island, has been closed for refurbishment since early 2025 and was scheduled to reopen this year as a Sheraton-branded property1. The casino itself, a foreigner-only venue, is due to have a soft launch on September 21.

The casino was formerly home to Gongzi Casino, which paused operations from early November 20241. The revamped property is under Jeju WanLi Group and a company called Gil Sang Chang Hui LLC, according to its website1. Its chief operating officer, Vincent Loi, said the relaunch follows "almost a year of dedicated hard work" from the venue's team, and that Jeju WanLi Casino will offer gaming products aimed at "young players"1.

Loi has said the venue's marketing is being repositioned toward mass-play segments and away from the pre-pandemic junket-driven model of the former Gongzi Casino1. Jeju is home to eight foreigner-only casino licenses, although some venues have periodically been inactive1.

According to a recent statement from Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, visitors in their 20s and 30s accounted for 51.3 percent of total Jeju casino patronage in 2025, up 3.4 percentage points from 47.9 percent in 20241.

What it means for players

Jeju's casinos are foreigner-only, so the closure and relaunch of this venue affects visiting players rather than South Korean nationals. The hotel around the casino has been shut since early 2025, which removes that accommodation option on the island until it reopens under the Sheraton brand1. The casino floor itself has been out of service since early November 2024, so players looking for table games or slots on Jeju have had one fewer venue to visit. The relaunch is aimed at mass-market players and younger customers rather than the junket-driven play the site previously hosted1. Details of the games on offer, opening hours and entry requirements at the relaunched venue have not been reported.

What happens next

Jeju WanLi Casino is due to have a soft launch on September 21. The hotel is scheduled to reopen this year as a Sheraton-branded property1. No further dates have been reported.
