Sports Toto, the operator of South Korea's state-licensed sports betting games, began applying a new carryover method for Soccer Toto Seung-mu-pae prize money on 8 August 2025, according to the operator's own game page1. The rule governs how unclaimed first to fourth prize money is carried into later rounds1.
Soccer Toto Seung-mu-pae asks players to predict the final result of 14 matches, home team only, as win, draw or loss, excluding extra time and penalty shootouts1. The unit stake is 1,000 won and multiple selections are allowed1. The game covers matches organized by the Korea Football Association and the Korea Professional Football League, plus major matches held in South Korea and abroad, with 14 matches per round1. The overall chance of any prize is given as 1 in 1,447, and the chance of a first prize as 1 in 4,782,9691. Total sales are returned at 50 percent1.
Under the new method, only first prize money carries over to the next round, for up to five consecutive times1. If first prize has carried over more than five consecutive times, the first prize money is distributed to the next lower rank that has a winner in that round1. Second and third prizes do not carry over and are distributed to the next lower rank within the same round1. Fourth prize money is distributed to second, third and fourth prizes in the next round at a ratio of 2:1:2, or 40 percent, 20 percent and 40 percent1. If no rank has a winner, the entire carried amount is distributed to first to fourth prizes in the next round at 5:2:1:2, or 50 percent, 20 percent, 10 percent and 20 percent, and the carryover count resets1.
"본 이월 방식은 2025년 8월 8일부터 적용됩니다."

Payouts are rounded up to the nearest won, and any prize below the 1,000 won unit stake is paid at 1,000 won1. Claims can be made from the day after the official results announcement and for one year after1. If two or fewer matches are canceled, those results count as correct; if three or more are canceled, the round is void and refunded1.
What it means for players
For anyone playing Soccer Toto Seung-mu-pae in South Korea, the change affects what happens when a rank has no winner. First prize money can now sit unclaimed for up to five rounds before it is pushed down to the next rank that has a winner, rather than accumulating indefinitely1. Fourth prize money no longer stays at fourth level: it moves into the second, third and fourth prizes of the following round1. Second and third prizes are never carried forward and are redistributed within the same round1. The 50 percent return rate, the 1,000 won unit stake and the odds of each rank are unchanged1. The same carryover wording appears on the operator's basketball page, which also states the method applies from 8 August 20252. General rules on how state and licensed lotteries and sports betting in South Korea work are set out separately.
What happens next
The method applies from 8 August 20251. No further dates, review points or transitional arrangements are given on the operator's page1.
