W Macau opened on 8 September 2023 inside the Studio City integrated resort on the Cotai Strip in Macau, according to Vogue Taiwan, which reported the opening date and described the property as part of Marriott's W Hotels group1. Time Out Hong Kong reported that the hotel opened in September and is now open for booking2.

The hotel has 557 rooms in total, of which 127 are suites, Time Out reported2. Vogue Taiwan gave the same total and broke it down as 430 rooms plus 127 suites, with floor areas ranging from 37 to 258 square meters1. Both outlets said the design was by Zaha Hadid Architects, with Vogue Taiwan describing the inspiration as Hollywood films shot in Macau in the 1950s2.

Facilities listed by Time Out include a spa, fitness center, indoor swimming pool and meeting and event spaces2. Vogue Taiwan described a 16-meter indoor WET pool with a warm water jacuzzi, cold plunge pool, swing beds, steam room and sauna, a 24-hour FIT gym, and an AWAY Spa with two express treatment rooms and five treatment rooms1. Time Out said the hotel is also launching its signature recording studio, the W Sound Suite2; Vogue Taiwan said the W Sound Suite at the 40th-floor Blind Tiger bar is the first in Greater China and offers professional-grade audio equipment for making music on site1.

On food and drink, Time Out named Hawker Hawker, a three-meal-period restaurant inspired by local marketplaces, and Diva, a modern Cantonese restaurant, plus Blind Tiger and the Living Room, which includes a main bar and a speakeasy-style bar called A.P.D. (A Perfect Dose)2. Vogue Taiwan described four restaurants and bars: the all-day Living Room bar, A.P.D. hidden inside it, the all-day Hawker Hawker restaurant, and the 40th-floor modern Cantonese restaurant Diva with tea-based cocktails, next to Blind Tiger1.

What it means for players

W Macau is a hotel, not a casino floor, and neither report describes gaming areas inside the hotel itself. It sits within Studio City, which Vogue Taiwan notes contains a casino, the largest water park in Macau and Michelin-recognized dining, including the repeatedly Michelin-recommended Yue Long Xuan1. For visitors, the practical effect is more rooms and dining inside an existing Cotai integrated resort, which is relevant to anyone planning a Macau trip around the casinos and integrated resorts on the strip. Entry rules, minimum ages and what is available inside Macau's casinos are unchanged by this opening; see our guide to whether you can gamble in Macau for the current position. Nothing in either report covers junket arrangements, table minimums or player loyalty programs at Studio City.

What happens next

Neither report sets out further dated steps. Time Out directs readers to marriott.com to book2. No opening date for any additional phase, and no details of casino-side changes at Studio City, have been reported.
