The Hong Kong Jockey Club has published new entrance fees for its top individual membership tier, effective from 1 August 2026. The Full Membership entrance fee is now HK$1,050,000, and the Full Membership (S) entrance fee, open to the eligible spouse of a Full Member, is HK$525,0001. Both figures carry the operator's note "*Effective from 1 August 2026"2.

The Club's membership pages list four main types: Racing Membership, Full Membership, The Racing Club Membership and Corporate Membership2. The Club says it currently has a subscription base of about 16,400 Full Members and about 9,700 Racing Members1.

Monthly subscriptions differ by tier. Full Membership carries a monthly subscription of HK$3,150, while Full Membership (S) carries HK$1,0501. Racing Membership has an entrance fee of HK$210,000 and a monthly subscription of HK$1,050, effective from 1 October 20252. A Racing Member moving up to Full Membership pays a qualification fee equal to the prevailing Full Membership entrance fee minus the Racing Membership entrance fee already paid1.

The Club states that the entrance fee payable is the one applicable at the time of election to membership, not the fee at the time the application form was submitted, and that all paid fees and charges are non-refundable1. Applications for Full Membership from people who are not already Racing Members require both the Racing Membership Application Form and the Full Membership Application Form, submitted together2. Full Membership application forms are available from resident Honorary Stewards or Voting Members2.

"Election to membership is in the absolute discretion of the Stewards who may reject the application without being obliged to provide any reason or explanation."

Full Membership carries the same privileges as Racing Membership, plus use of all facilities at Happy Valley Clubhouse, Sha Tin Clubhouse and Beas River Country Club at all times, and use of facilities at Beijing Clubhouse and the HKJC Shenzhen Centre under a reciprocal arrangement2. Full Members may apply for supplementary cards for a spouse and unmarried children aged 8 to 21; cards for children carry a non-refundable annual fee and expire at the end of the birthday month in which the holder turns 211.

What it means for players

Membership of the Club is separate from betting. A racegoer does not need any category of membership to bet on Hong Kong racing, and the fee changes do not alter betting rules, pool types or takeout. What the fees buy is access: Members' Enclosures at Happy Valley and Sha Tin racecourses, members' boxes, the ability to buy admission badges for guests, and clubhouse facilities2. Racing Membership also allows a member to apply to own racehorses and enter them in races2.

For a visitor or an expat weighing up a day at the races, the practical point is that public areas and betting facilities are unaffected by this change. For anyone considering membership, the entry cost at the top tier is now HK$1,050,000, and the Club's own terms mean the fee is set at election, not application, and is not refunded1. The Club has not reported how many applications it receives or how long the process takes.

What happens next

The new Full Membership and Full Membership (S) entrance fees apply from 1 August 20261. The Club says entrance fees and monthly subscriptions are subject to review by the Stewards from time to time2. No further fee changes have been announced beyond those dated 1 October 2025, 1 January 2026 and 1 August 20261.
