Marina Bay Sands, owned by Las Vegas Sands, has officially broken ground on a $10.3 billion expansion in Singapore, according to Time Out. The project's centrepiece is a new 55-storey hotel tower designed by Safdie Architects, the firm behind the existing resort, with the official opening set for January 20311.

The tower will house 570 suites alongside new upscale retail outlets, a casino, fine-dining restaurants and wellness facilities1. The development also includes a new 15,000-seat podium built to host large-scale live events1. Talks of expanding the property began as far back as 20191.

The fourth tower will feature Skyloop, described as a multi-level rooftop space with both public and private areas, echoing the existing SkyPark Observation Deck. Visitors will be able to use an observatory with panoramic views of the city skyline, rooftop gardens and restaurants, while hotel guests get exclusive access to private cabanas, infinity pools and a wellness terrace that will host curated events1.

Construction is expected to be completed by June 2030, ahead of the January 2031 opening1.

What it means for players

The expansion adds casino space to Singapore's Marina Bay Sands, one of the two integrated resorts licensed to operate a casino in the country. The new casino is not expected to open before January 2031, so it will not change the current choice of venues for locals, expats or visitors in the near term. Entry rules and the games available at Singapore's two existing casinos are unchanged by the announcement. What happens next

Construction is expected to be completed by June 2030, with the official opening set for January 20311. No further milestones, licensing decisions or phased opening dates have been reported.
