Thailand's Government Lottery Office published its announcement on the six-digit government lottery, Lottery 6 (L6), in the Royal Gazette on 29 September 2023, with effect from the draw of 1 October 2023 onward1. Tickets for that first draw had been on sale since 17 September 20231.
- The first L6 draw covers 101 million tickets, split between 80 million paper and 21 million digital tickets2
- Nine prize categories total 14,168 prizes per set1
- All L6 sets, 30 million tickets in total, are priced at 80 baht each2
- Winners can claim any prize immediately or hold the ticket for up to two years2
The first L6 draw covers 101 million tickets in total, split between 80 million paper tickets and 21 million digital tickets2. The office's own announcement gives the combined figure of 101 million paper and digital tickets without the split1. Paper tickets carry the same anti-counterfeiting features as existing tickets, including security paper, a watermark, embedded security thread and printed security marks, plus the text "L6 paper"2. Digital tickets are not printed as paper but held as data in a system, carry the text "L6 digital" and are bought and sold through the Paotang app2.
The announcement sets out nine prize categories totaling 14,168 prizes per set1:
| Prize | Amount per prize | Number of prizes |
|---|---|---|
| First prize | 6 million baht | 1 |
| Prizes adjacent to first prize | 1 hundred thousand baht | 2 |
| Second prize | 2 hundred thousand baht | 5 |
| Third prize | 8 ten thousand baht | 10 |
| Fourth prize | 4 ten thousand baht | 50 |
| Fifth prize | 2 ten thousand baht | 100 |
| First three digits, drawn twice | 4,000 baht | 2,000 |
| Last three digits, drawn twice | 4,000 baht | 2,000 |
| Last two digits, drawn once | 2,000 baht | 10,000 |
Thairath reported that all L6 sets, 30 million tickets in total, are priced at 80 baht each, and that if a first prize is won across every set the maximum payout reaches 180 million baht2. The report attributes the figure to Police Lieutenant Colonel Noon Sansanakom, director of the Government Lottery Office, and states the arrangement followed a board resolution and approval by the cabinet of then prime minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha2. The announcement itself does not give a ticket price1.
Paper L6 prizes can be claimed at the Government Lottery Office or at any branch of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, Krungthai Bank and Government Savings Bank, presenting the winning paper ticket and an identity card to staff1. Thairath reported three channels for winners: transfer through the Paotang app to various banks, transfer through Krungthai Bank, or claiming in person at the lottery office with an identity card2. Winners can claim any prize, including the first prize, immediately, or hold the ticket for up to two years before claiming, as with paper tickets2.
What it means for players
L6 replaces the previous six-digit format from the 1 October 2023 draw, so tickets bought for that draw and later carry the L6 marking and the prize structure above. The published structure keeps the familiar last-two-digit and last-three-digit prizes alongside the six-digit top prize, and the last-three-digit categories are drawn twice, giving two chances per ticket at 4,000 baht1. Paper and digital tickets are sold at the same 80 baht price per ticket according to Thairath, and digital tickets exist only inside the Paotang app rather than as a physical document2. Claiming rules differ by format: paper tickets are presented in person at the lottery office or the three named banks, while digital prizes are handled through the app or Krungthai Bank1. The two-year window to claim applies to L6 winners, including first-prize winners2. The announcement does not state who may buy L6 tickets or any age restriction1.
What happens next
The L6 rules took effect from the 1 October 2023 draw, the first draw under the format, for which sales opened on 17 September 20231. No further dated steps are set out in the announcement1.
