Thailand's Government Lottery Office opened applications for digital lottery sales agents from 3 to 10 May 2022, accepting them through its website at www.glo.or.th, according to a government announcement1. The first sales period for the digital tickets is 16 June 2022, and agents will sign one-year contracts1.
Lieutenant Colonel Nun Sansanakom, director of the Government Lottery Office, said applicants must already be small-scale agents, in the central region or the provinces, or advance-purchase buyers who have completed identity verification1. Approved agents will receive five books of tickets under a single contract, and the tickets will enter the office's platform for sale through the Krung Thai Bank Paotang and Thung Ngern apps from 2 June 20221. If applications in the first round do not fill the required number of digital agents, the office will consider accepting more from the group that registered for advance purchase and booking in 20221.
The director said selling through the platform adds a sales channel only, and the product remains the same lottery ticket as at present, scanned into the platform system. The physical tickets are kept at the lottery office as evidence for paying prizes, or money is transferred through Krung Thai Bank with a 1 percent fee1. Buyers can purchase tickets at 80 baht, choose from more numbers, and sellers can sell from 06:00 to 23:00 every day, up to 14:00 on the draw day1.
The office said the platform project is meant to fix the problem of overpriced tickets, alongside other measures1. The 80-baht lottery project was already running at 209 points in Bangkok, the surrounding provinces and the central region, and was expected to cover all regions by July 20221. More than 1 million applicants, old and new, had registered for the advance purchase and booking project, and their qualifications were still being checked1.

What it means for players
The digital channel is an addition to the existing paper Thai Government Lottery, not a replacement. Tickets bought this way are priced at 80 baht, the official price, which is the point of the project: the office says it is meant to address tickets sold above face value1. Buyers use the Paotang and Thung Ngern apps, both run by Krung Thai Bank, and their tickets are recorded in the system, so a lost paper ticket is not a concern in the same way1. Sales run from 06:00 to 23:00 daily, closing at 14:00 on the draw day, which is a wider window than a physical stall typically offers1. The physical ticket stays with the lottery office as the record used to pay prizes, and prize money can be transferred through Krung Thai Bank with a 1 percent fee1. For anyone weighing the official channel against resellers, the cost of a Thai government lottery ticket and the general rules of state lotteries in Asia set the context, and lottery scams remain a separate risk from the official app. Gambling rules in the country more broadly are covered in Can I gamble in Thailand?
What happens next
Applications close on 10 May 20221. Approved agents' tickets enter the platform from 2 June 2022, and the first digital sales period begins on 16 June 20221. If agent numbers fall short, the office will consider a further round drawn from 2022 advance-purchase registrants1. The 80-baht lottery points were expected to reach all regions by July 2022, and public consultation on a new product, described as a long-term fix, was expected around the middle of 20221.
