Horse racing in Thailand started over a century ago when a piece of land in Sra Pratum became a venue for cycle races, gymkhanas, and horse racing. Racing became famous as the country built tracks in provincial cities, and the need for stables was overwhelming. The horse racing industry immediately bloomed. It also helped Thailand's poor and rural sector, where they made young men be horse jockeys.

As the years went by, the Thais began absorbing the sport of football, and the racing industry began falling. Some experts stated that the country should venture into a global competition to keep the industry alive. But it remains a distant possibility as the kingdom is not hosting any international race events, and Thai-bred horses are only allowed to race.

Namsak Thepnarong, Thailand's top horse jockey, remains positive that the industry will soon bloom again and keep his hopes high just like the other international horse jockeys. He gets his inspiration from horse racing jockeys who love cars and are always victorious in their races.

Horse racing jocks are known for their ability to make their horses fast enough to win races in the tracks, but that is all we know of them. It is fascinating that some of these horse racing jocks who love cars have good taste with expensive machines. Here are some of the jockeys who revealed their interest in cars.

Horse Jockeys Who Love Cars

Frank Dettori

Lanfranco Dettori grew up in the racing tracks. His father, Gianfranco, used to be a horse jockey in Sardinia. He inspired Frank to pursue a career like his dad. Frank stopped going to school and learned to be a jockey when he was 13 years old and was victorious at the age of 16.

Frank was described as “quite natural” because of his confidence and riding style that led him to numerous victories in his career.

The average distance that a jockey travels by driving a car is 70,000 miles every year, as reported by the Great British Racing. Horse jockeys travel that much of a distance to participate in horse races. Frank Dettori drove more than that because of his long successful career that lasted for almost three decades already.

Frank Dettori had a terrible plane crash accident that injured him in 2002. It shows that the Italian jockey doesn't always drive his car in between races. However, people saw him driving his soft-top Maserati GranCabrio during the inaugurals of his restaurant venture.

During his interview, he disclosed that the humble Mazda 323 was his first car then upgraded it to a Mercedes 190. Frank Dettori awarded himself with an astonishing Ferrari and owned a fleet of other extraordinary cars after he worked hard for so many years and success in the tracks.

The Ferrari 430 Scuderia is an expensive car at £172,500, which is the company's pared-back design of the best-selling vehicle. This Ferrari is a sensational car that has electronic chassis aids that gives an exciting driving experience. People doubted the car's value because they say that the price was too much for a Ferrari. All the skepticism was erased when people experienced the car's power at 20 to 503 bhp and an unbelievable 4lb ft to 346 lb-ft torque. The Scuderia is faster than the Enzo and 2.0 second quicker than the F430 and comes in with better handling than any other Ferraris. The Scuderia also provides outstanding driving comfort and also has a race track potential. It has a smoother transmission and a more flexible engine that Ferrari says that the Scuderia can reach 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds and can go a top speed of 198 mph.

Richard Dunwoody

Richard Dunwoody is a three-time Champion and is among Britain's successful jockeys in history. He is known to have a good partnership with the celebrated Desert Orchid. Dunwoody was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and was the only horse jockey who won the “Big Three” National Hunt races and also has wins on Kribensis (Champion Hurdle 1990), Carter Party (Cheltenham Gold Cup 1988), and West Tip (Aintree Grand National 1986). He was also a three-time Champion Jockey from 1993 to 1995, and also won the Grand National on Minnehoma in 1994.

Richard Dunwoody is a very successful horse jockey with two UK Grand National titles under his belt. He started raising money for charities as he traveled the world after his retirement in 1991. Dunwoody told ESPN that he was a big car addict for the longest time. He followed F1 racing and became a racer for a few seasons before he became a horse jockey.

In 2004, Dunwoody collaborated with Clement Wilson to race in a Volvo V70R against a bunch of Lamborghinis, Porches, and Ferraris. He became the author of “Our Gumball Rally,” which was inspired by this race.

The Volvo V70R has a setting of its Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) suspension that makes the car's priority comfort service. However, the vehicle is unable to show body control in dealing with washboard ripples and sharp bumps.

The improvements on the Volvo V70R made it better, but experts say that it isn't good enough. A driver may experience a sudden shock inside the cabin when the car hits spiked potholes, lifted utility hole covers, or sharp bumps.

Hugh Bowman

Hugh Bowman is a successful horse jockey and is famous for riding Winx. The Australian jockey already had many wins throughout his career until he retired in 2019. Bowman's first car was a Holden Commodore, but unfortunately, he had rear-ended a police car that suddenly went to stop in the middle of the street. He then purchased a collection of exhilarating vehicles, which includes a V8-powered Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. He also owns a Mercedes-Benz Parramatta, and he dreams of having a Bugatti Chiron.

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is a compact luxury car with four variants, there is a two-door canvas-roofed C63 Cabriolet and a C63 Coupe, and there are also four-door variants, the C63 Saloon, and the rare C63 Estate. The four options have a 463bhp, 479lb ft C63 S tune engine as it is standard and a 503bhp, 516lb ft Race mode that features traction control where you can turn the dial-up or down to adjust the assistance. The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG has the most thrilling engine in its class that can give you a fun and memorable driving experience.

Blake Spriggs

Blake started to dream of becoming a horse jockey when he was three years old. He grew up as an athletic person, excelling in running and soccer. Blake even reached a State-level runner when he was ten years old and went to attend the Australian youth talent team tryouts to journey through Germany.

Blake hated going to school, but his sports activities somehow made school tolerable for him. He spent his summer vacations at his grandfather's place near Gravesend and attended a pony camp organized by trainer Peter Sinclair. When he was ready to leave school, he pursued his training as an apprentice jockey.

He won his first race at the age of 16 in March 2009 at the Muswellbrook racecourse. Blake rode Sixty Watt, which was memorable for him.

Blake Spriggs is among the horse racing jockeys who love cars. He even posted on Twitter about the Ferrari California that he took for a test drive. Briggs jokingly added that he might buy that car if he became victorious in the race. Unfortunately, he did not win the race. He somehow purchased an Audi S6 in replacement of his Audi R8 as his reward, instead of choosing a luxurious way of living.

Spriggs also stated that he chose to be an automobile salesman for several months while he was nursing his broken ankle injury from horse racing.

The Ferrari California is a 2-door hardtop convertible Grand Tourer, and it started its production between 2008 and 2017. There were many versions of this car that offered desirable upgrades and improvements. It houses a 4.3-liter V8 engine that belts out 450 bhp, which produces an acceleration of 0-62 mph in just four seconds and can go upto 195 mph top speed. The design of the Ferrari California aims for first-time Ferrari buyers, and it doesn't have an aggressive facade as the other Ferrari variants. This car was the first to feature a start/stop function and was later introduced to other Ferrari cars.

Horse Racing Jockeys

Jockeys are very dedicated athletes who must endure an extreme level of physical fitness. They must maintain a preferred weight and strength to control their horse at high speeds and make sure to be victorious in every race. A lot of money is at stake in every event, enough for horse racing jockeys who love cars to have their own. Supercars or luxury cars are expensive, but anyone can fulfill their dreams if they work hard enough, just like these horse racing jockeys who love cars and who have a relentless passion for their craft.
