The Blind Side

Portraying the no-nonsense Leigh Anne Tuohy, Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for delivering a towering performance in The Blind Side. The film follows the story of Michael Oher, a homeless teenager who becomes an All American football player and first-round NFL draft pick.

Gridiron Gang

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Dunn, Xzibit, and L. Scott Caldwell

This 2006 American football drama film is loosely based on the real-life story of the Kilpatrick Mustangs, a football team in Camp Kilpatrick. Camp Kilpatrick is a juvenile detention camp located in Santa Monica Mountains of western LA, California. Dwayne Johnson stars as ex-professional football player turned coach of juvenile delinquents, teaching the young ones about self-esteem and motivation as they play.

Little Giants

Starring: Rick Moranis, Ed O’Neill, and John Madden

Little Giants is a 1994 sports comedy film about sibling rivalry. The film follows two adult brothers as they settle their difference on the football field as they coach two different teams. Danny O’Shea played by Rick Moranis has always stayed in the shadows of his older brother Kevin (Ed O’Neill), a local football hero. Danny was forced to challenge his older brother when his daughter was cut off from the pee-wee football team coached by Kevin just because she was a girl despite being the best player in the team.

Undefeated

Directed By: Daniel Lindsay and T.J. Martin

Undefeated is a documentary movie released in 2011. The film shows the different struggles the underfunded Manassas High School football team, the Manassas Tigers of Memphis, had to face in their journey into a winning season. Bill Courtney, the team’s coach, turned the young students into an athletic team with good academics to boot.

Kudos also to Martin and Lindsay who patiently and diligently served as the directors, sound recorders, cinematographers and editors of the documentary.

Necessary Roughness

Starring: Scott Bakula, Robert Loggia, Harley Jane Kozak, Sinbad, and Hector Elizondo

Necessary Roughness is a 1991 film that follows the story of the Texas State University as they struggle to fill in their school’s football team as most of the previous players but one were banned from playing after a scandal. The lone player forms a new team filled with misfits including a female kicker and a middle-aged quarterback to bring a hilarious football season that American football fans of all ages can enjoy.

The Replacements

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, Brooke Langton, Jon Favreau, and Jack Warden

This 2000 American football film directed by Howard Deutch tells the story about a retired football coach played Gene Hackman who was called to coach again during a strike by NFL players. Quarterback Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves) leads the team of replacements in order to finish the last four games of the season. This feel-good comedy will surely give you a solid laugh.

North Dallas Forty
